Another Hard Drive Crash

Last hard drive crash: January 2007

Most recent hard drive crash: TODAY

NO warning whatsoever. Everything was running perfectly. Then, POW.

(Bleep) this (bleeping) (bleep).

_______________

UPDATE: I like my PC as much as Brett Favre likes Ted Thompson.

  1. Do you have a good backup?

  2. Yeah. With the price of drives today, there's no good reason not to have a backup. I clone my drive about every 6 months and update changed important files like photos, every time it's changed.

I've had drives go on me. Only once a system drive. Since I had a clone, though, I could simply swap it out for the bad one, reboot, and be good to go.

  3. What a pain!

    I'm up and running again.

Yes, I have a backup, but it wasn't as up-to-date as it should have been.

I didn't lose any really important files, but I did lose some stuff I wanted to keep.

I always have photos stored in more than one place. I would never trust any given hard drive with something irreplaceable.

The killer about yesterday's crash is the night before, just hours before it happened, I opted not to do a backup and I cleaned the house instead.

I looked at the clock and decided not to do the backup.

Moral of the story: Never clean when you should be tending to your computer.
