Marquette President Michael Lovell's Son Withdraws From School

Michael Lovell, Marquette University's president, has a family matter and a university matter playing out very publicly.

Matt, Lovell's son, has withdrawn from Marquette because he made racist and sexist posts on Instagram meme accounts.

This article is actually very troubling to read. I feel sorry for the Lovell family.

Apparently, no one is allowed to make mistakes anymore.

If you do something wrong, something inappropriate, you're done. Zero tolerance.

Marquette University's administration under Michael Lovell has had a disturbing number of cases of documented hostility and harassment directed at conservative students, incoming students, and faculty. Embracing Leftist political correctness has become more important at Marquette than embracing its Catholic identity. Too often, the values that once were Marquette's foundation are dismissed for their inconvenience. Upholding the Leftist agenda appears to be the priority.

Repentance and forgiveness are so important in a Catholic community. Everyone is a sinner and everyone can choose to come back to God and be forgiven.

Unfortunately, the Democrat/Leftist mob that wields power at Marquette doesn't share that perspective. If you don't fall in line with what the mob deems acceptable in terms of politics and morals, if you express different views, you're removed or are pressured to leave. Quite simply, that is not Christlike.

In the case of Matt Lovell, he admits and deeply regrets posting "offensive, racist and sexist images on social media."

I don't know the specifics, but both Michael Lovell and his wife were "horrified and shocked" by their son's posts.

It's impossible to comment fairly without knowing the exact content of the posts and make an informed judgment on the resolution of the matter.

However, speaking generally, I think we need to accept that human beings are not perfect. We fall short. Taking responsibility for one's actions along with sincere repentance is an opportunity for growth to become a better person. Likewise, others become better people by showing compassion and forgiving transgressions.

I don't see how we can function as individuals and as a community and country if we deny the reality that we all need forgiveness.

Marquette fails as an institution of higher learning if there's no room to learn.
