Jacob Blake had earlier sexually assaulted the woman whose van he was stealing (with their children inside, making it an attempted kidnapping) while armed with a curved blade knife when he was shot.

Jacob Blake admits he had a knife during scuffle with police. He says he dropped it and then later picked it back up before trying to get into the car.
