Chicago's Violent July 4th Weekend

At least 97 people have been shot, 17 of them fatally, as of 5 p.m. Friday in incidents across Chicago, according to an ABC7 Eyewitness News count based on CPD data. Two police officers and seven minors are among those injured in July 4th weekend gun violence, including a 17-year-old who was injured when his own gun discharged during a mugging attempt, according to officials.

In one incident, two people were killed and four were wounded, including a 12-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy, in a shooting early Monday in Washington Park on the South Side.
