John Edwards Was Right!

In the 2004 Presidential campaign, again and again, John Edwards said, "There are two Americas."

I objected to his imagery. I believed, regardless of our differing circumstances and opinions, this is one America. The UNITED States. I thought the beliefs we shared as Americans far outweighed our dissimilarities. Moreover, I felt Edwards was intending to divide the country, pitting Americans against each other to realize his own partisan political goals.

I WAS WRONG!

What I have witnessed this past week has led me to conclude that there are indeed two Americas.

There is an America that believes in the sanctity of human life.

There is an America that believes in life as disposable when it is deemed inconvenient or unworthy.

John Edwards, you were right.

I am not a part of the America that promotes and actively seeks the starvation of an innocent, disabled human being, nor will I ever be.

America is divided. No common ground can be found here.

The Divided States of America.
