Celebrating Another Life: Mass for Terri

As the world glues its attention to Rome with the passing of Pope John Paul II, it should not be forgotten that the Schindlers will be grieving the loss of their daughter at a funeral Mass tonight at 7:00 PM, at Most Holy Name Of Jesus Parish, 5800 15th Avenue South, Gulfport, Florida.

There will be an early gathering for friends to meet with the Schindler family, from 5:30-7:00 PM.

Family Reception following Mass: 8:00 PM ET

GULFPORT, Fla. - With the family as deeply divided as ever, Terri Schiavo's parents arranged a funeral Mass for her Tuesday night, while her husband held on to her cremated remains and planned a separate service.

Schiavo's parents had opposed her cremation and hoped to bury her in their adopted state of Florida.

But her husband, Michael Schiavo, ordered her cremation and said her ashes will be buried in his family's plot in Pennsylvania, the state where Terri Schiavo grew up and met her future husband.

Michael Schiavo has not said when his memorial service will be held, but is under a court order to notify the parents of his plans. Schiavo's attorney, George Felos, did not return a call Tuesday for comment.

I think it's worth noting that Pope John Paul II strongly spoke out against the court-ordered starvation of Terri Schindler-Schiavo.

The Schindlers must take great comfort in knowing the Holy Father prayed for Terri.

Offerings:
Terri's family has received flowers from so many people and are touched by these acts of kindness. They, literally, have no room left for more.

If you would like to send your condolences to the Schindler family in lieu of flowers, you may send a Mass Offering Card to the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church or a note to the Schindlers.
