Saddam Hussein feels that he's been wronged.
Oh, the indignity!
WHAT A JOKE!
From the BBC:
Saddam to sue over prison photos
Saddam Hussein plans to take legal action after a British newspaper published photos of him half-naked in his prison cell and doing his washing.
"We will sue the newspaper and everyone who helped in showing these pictures," said Saddam Hussein's chief lawyer Ziad Al-Khasawneh, speaking from Jordan.
The Sun newspaper said it would fight any legal action and said it planned to publish more photos on Saturday.
..."It's important that the people of Iraq see him like that to destroy the myth," the paper's source was quoted as saying.
However, several Arab commentators have suggested the photos could increase anti-American feeling in the region.
Khaled al-Maeena, the editor of Saudi Arabia's Arab News told the BBC the photos would be seen as "an insult and an affront".
The Sun's managing editor Graham Dudman defended the decision to publish the images...
"This is a sort of modern-day Adolf Hitler. These pictures are an extraordinary iconic news image that will still be being looked at the end of this century."
...President George W Bush said he did not think the photos would encourage insurgents in Iraq.
"I don't think a photo inspires murderers. I think they're inspired by an ideology that's so barbaric and backwards that it's hard for many in the Western world to comprehend how they think."
You know what I think? I think some people, including elected officials, are bent on interpreting ALL American actions as being an insult and an affront to the Arab world. No matter what the Bush administration does, it's wrong.
It goes without saying that photos of Saddam at "intimate" moments should not have been taken, nor should they be circulated. Those responsible should be held accountable.
BUT--I am so sick of hearing complaints about America hurting the feelings of people in the Middle East. These complaints come not only from those in the region, but from many in Europe, as well as the liberals here at home.
They complain that we never should have overthrown the leader of a sovereign nation. Simultaneously, they whine that the support we offer to this country struggling toward democracy is inadequate.
We should be giving more aid of all kinds; yet we should leave the region immediately.
We should be doing more on the humanitarian front, to win hearts and minds. At the same time, they insist we should withdraw NOW.
Even the food we send is insensitive.
It seems anything America does can be twisted and contorted to become an assault on Arab culture.
I find the notion of Saddam Hussein suing over the publication of photos absolutely insane!
Did the thousands of innocent men, women, elderly, children, and infants that fill the mass graves in Iraq have the chance to sue Saddam?
Did all of the women raped under Saddam's reign of terror have the chance to sue?
Did the families of the men taken away and tortured by Saddam's regime receive compensation for damages?
They did not and they will not.
Nonetheless, experts claim Arabs will be outraged by the photos and anti-American sentiment will grow. This outrage is misplaced.
Of course, anti-American liberals will jump all over this. While bashing the Bush administration, they will continue to put the American military at greater risk.
But don't forget, they support the troops
