From AP:
Memo Suggests Annan Oil-For-Food Link
Investigators of the U.N. oil-for-food program said Tuesday they are "urgently reviewing" new information that suggests U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan may have known more about a contract that was awarded to the company that employed his son.
The December 1998 memo from Michael Wilson, then a vice president of Cotecna Inspections S.A., mentions brief discussions with Annan "and his entourage" during a summit in Paris in 1998. "We could count on their support," the memo said.
If accurate, the memo could contradict a major finding of the Independent Inquiry Committee - that there wasn't enough evidence to show that Annan knew about efforts by Cotecna, which employed his son, Kojo, to win a contract under oil-for-food. Cotecna learned it won the contract on Dec. 11, 1998.
The statement from the Independent Inquiry Committee, led by former Federal Reserve chairman Paul Volcker, said it would "conduct additional investigation regarding this new information."
In a statement released earlier Tuesday, Cotecna again denied that it committed any wrongdoing in obtaining the $10 million a year contract.
When are Kofi Annan and the United Nations going to be held accountable for their corruption?
When will liberals stop propping Annan and the UN up as a relevant world body?
So many are calling for Gitmo to be closed immediately. To me, that's an overreaction. No widespread abuse has been found. On the contrary, tremendous efforts have been taken to treat the ENEMY combatants well.
The United Nations, on the other hand, has been involved in the largest scandal of graft and fraud in history. Money that should have gone toward humanitarian aid went into the pockets of Saddam Hussein and a litany of others around the globe. We KNOW that.
I propose that the United Nations be shut down at once.
