Kalpoe Brothers Released, van Der Sloot Detained

FOX reports:

ORANJESTAD, Aruba — Deepak and Satish Kalpoe, two of the three men detained in the Natalee Holloway case, were ordered freed Monday by an Aruban judge who ruled authorities had no grounds to hold them another 60 days without charges.

That left Joran van der Sloot, the 17-year-old Durch-born son of a justice official, as the sole person in custody in connection with the disappearance of the 18-year-old Alabama woman.

From AP:

"The detention of Deepak and Satish K. has not been prolonged," court clerk Isella Wernet said, reading from a statement outside the courthouse. The suspects are ordered released immediately. The detention of Joran van der S. has been prolonged 60 days beginning today."

Wernet went back inside the courthouse without commenting on the basis for the judge's decision.

I'm so pleased for the Holloway family that they may yet see justice done in Natalee's disappearance.

I do think, if not for the tireless efforts of Natalee's mother, Beth Holloway Twitty, a 44-year-old speech therapist, and other family members, friends, and supporters, Joran van der Sloot would have been released as well. If not for their massive efforts to draw attention to the case and get American government officials involved, I think Aruban authorities would have let Joran go because of the lack of forensic evidence and no body.

My heart breaks for Natalee's family. Rather than hoping to find her alive, it seems the most that they can hope for is that the person/persons responsible for her death will pay.
