Drudge is reporting the Dems' strategy to derail the President's Supreme Court nominee.
Overheard on an Amtrak train, in a long cell phone conversation with a political ally, Sen. Chuck Schumer said:
“It's not about an individual judge… It's about how it affects the overall makeup of the court.”
“We are contemplating how we are going to go to war over this.”
“Even William Rehnquist is more moderate than they expected. The only ones that resulted how they predicted were [Antonin] Scalia and [Ruth Bader] Ginsburg. So most of the time they've gotten their picks wrong, and that's what we want to do to them again.”
“A Priscilla Owen or Janice Rogers Brown style appointment may not have been extraordinary to the appellate court but may be extraordinary to the Supreme Court.”
He also claimed that the "Gang of 14" agreement didn't apply to the SCOTUS debate.
Oops!
Chuckie Schumer should be more careful when talking on his cell phone. Not everyone on the train is a flaming lib.
Read this letter that Chuckie penned in 2003 regarding the Supreme Court.
Poor little Chuckie seems confused about his role as a Senator. He seems to think he can strong arm the President into choosing a nominee that will make him happy.
Chuckie doesn't get it. According to the Constitution, the President nominates an individual and the Senate votes on that nominee. The Senate doesn't choose the nominee.
As Dennis Prager said yesterday, "[T]he Left's eggs are in the judicial basket. It knows: no liberal courts, no liberal agenda. When combined with moral contempt for conservatives and an inability to persuade the public, the Left must retain the Supreme Court at any price. And that price is the good name of good people."
Chuckie's cell phone conversation certainly supports Prager's assertions.
