Silent Night

Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will one day walk on water?

Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?

Did you know,
that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you've delivered,
will soon deliver you.

Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?

Mary, did you know
your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand?

Did you know,
that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little baby,
you've kissed the face of God.

The blind will see
The deaf will hear
The dead will live again.
The lame will leap
The dumb will speak
The praises of The Lamb.

Mary, did you know
that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?

Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will one day rule the nations?

Did you know,
that your baby boy is heaven's perfect lamb?
This sleeping child you're holding, is the great I AM.

the fact is no one needs to justify harming the weak so as to benefit the strong because NO ONE has set out to do that.

i really don't mean to spoil your christmas but the fact that you believe that no one is harming anyone is beyond belief! you actually think that cutting medicare, cutting the enforcement of child care payments, cutting student loans and food stamps helps people! i want you to think long and hard this christmas if Jesus really would approve of you cutting these programs and then giving over 80% of the new tax cuts to the richest of americans. Jesus himself was a strong advocate of the poor and consistently cared for them. do you not recall that it will be harder for a rich man to enter heaven than it will be for him to enter the eye of a needle?

most of the other comments have been along the lines of welfare. we're not talking welfare here, which i am not much of a fan of, but cutting vital and important programs such as medicare, enforcement of child support payments, and student loans. i want to know who among you would feel comfortable telling a single mother to her face, sorry, ma'am, you're not getting any child support this month because those people over in beverly hills need the cash.

Well, then, you just contradicted yourself there friend! "I'm all for socialist programs- but don't you dare label me a socialist!"

You are stuck on first stage thinking. The liberal "war on poverty" has been a dismal failure. You need look no further than the Europeans to see that the kinds of policies you support are a dismal failure. Promoting the kinds of policies you advocate do not empower "the weak", when you look at what the results actually are.

i want you to think long and hard this christmas if Jesus really would approve of you cutting these programs and then giving over 80% of the new tax cuts to the richest of americans. Jesus himself was a strong advocate of the poor and consistently cared for them

This is what is so asburd. The notion that conservatives are not compassionate toward the poor. Liberals are compassionate...but irrational. They think with only their emotions, and ignore the fact that their policies, which on the surface appear to be good, only make matters worse.

When you talk about "tax cuts for the rich", it is such a meaningless load of horse manure. What the tax cuts have done for this country is to grow more wealth. Both poor and rich benefit. Cutting taxes is not a policy for the rich, but a strategy that attempts to help everyone increase their wealth (dependant, upon what the individual does with that money). It is allowing people to keep more of their own money. The top 1% pay something like 35% of the tax burden; the top 10% of the wealthy pay 65%; the top 25% of wage earners pay 83%. How much do the bottom 50% pay? Barely 4%. These figures come from the IRS. If those in the lower income bracket don't receive a huge tax cut, it's because they don't pay a great percentage of the tax burden to begin with. The poor don't even pay taxes.

So the top 10% pay nearly 2/3rds of the income tax burden.

The programs you support are the kinds of programs that kill all of that, and impoverishes us all. Education spending has gone up 40% under this President. But all liberals can keep screaming about is "More money for education, more money, more money, more money" as if it's an infinite well. We overspend on education as it is.

Think deeper on the issues when you talk about "Cutting student loans and food stamps". There's much more to it than the knee-jerk surface reaction you are giving us.

medicare, enforcement of child support payments and student loans are not socialist programs but simply morally responsible. i'd like to see you call some single mother working two jobs to support her children a socialist.

"What the tax cuts have done for this country is to grow more wealth. Both poor and rich benefit."

well how do you explain the fact that the amount of impoverished has increased since 2001?

Cutting taxes is not a policy for the rich, but a strategy that attempts to help everyone increase their wealth.

not true - the poor have no wealth to begin with, in fact they're in debt because while the ceo's at exxon are making 18 million a year, the people who are stocking groceries are barely able to pay their bills and are even in debt. and yet people like you only want to make life harder for them.

The top 1% pay something like 35% of the tax burden; the top 10% of the wealthy pay 65%;

this is not a significant statistic because according to:

http://www.faculty.fairfield.edu/faculty/hodgson/Courses/so11/stratification/income&wealth.htm

[google key word: wealth distribution]

the top 10% already own 67% of the wealth. so in reality they pay less of their share than the poor.

" The poor don't even pay taxes."
think again, according to:
http://www.itepnet.org/wp2000/text.pdf

Nationwide, effective state and local tax rates on non-elderly families follow a strikingly
regressive pattern:
# The average state and local tax rate on the best-off one percent of families is 7.3
percent before accounting for the tax savings from federal itemized deductions.
After the federal offset, the effective tax rate on the best-off one percent is a mere
5.2 percent.
# The average tax rate on families in the middle 20 percent of the income spectrum
is 9.9 percent before the federal offset and 9.6 percent after—almost twice the
effective rate that the richest people pay.
# The average tax rate on the poorest 20 percent of families is the highest of all. At
11.4 percent, it is more than double the effective rate on the very wealthy.
A second key finding of the study is that overall, changes in state and local taxes over
the past decade have made state tax systems even more regressive. While lawmakers in
many states have taken steps to provide low-income tax relief through earned-income tax
credits and similar mechanisms, these progressive changes have often been insufficient to
offset the growing use of regressive consumption taxes—and many states have not
enacted substantial low-income tax relief at all. At the same time, many states have actually
lowered taxes on their best-off residents.

Education spending has gone up 40% under this President. But all liberals can keep screaming about is "More money for education, more money, more money, more money" as if it's an infinite well. We overspend on education as it is.

how much do you want to wager that if we were both president of two different countries and while i spent my money on education and you allowed your rich tycoons to buy yachts and mercedes that after fifty years my country would by far exceed yours?

The programs you support are the kinds of programs that kill all of that, and impoverishes us all.

was not economy humming at a faster pace during the nineties than now when clinton was president?

i still want to know how you would feel telling a single mother to her face, sorry, ma'am, you're not getting any child support this month because those people over in beverly hills need the cash

Kyle,

I said earlier that I welcome your comments.

However, I won't tolerate spam.

Let me rework a statement you made:

I want YOU to think long and hard this Christmas if Jesus really would approve of you hijacking someone's blog.

Rather than spending your time online, why don't you volunteer to help the weak?

I assume you invoke Jesus as a feeble attempt to claim you're on topic.

Jesus was about action.

I support my church's food pantry. I supported a child for Christmas. I donate my time and money.

(By the way, less people need help this year than last year. Could it be because more have jobs thanks to tax cuts?)

If you are so concerned about those in need, why don't you do something about it and get offline?

Why don't you sell your PC? How about taking a vow of poverty?

Someone as compassionate as you shouldn't be wasting his time bashing Republicans.

“He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her.”

Sound familiar?

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

This is your final warning regarding spamming my site.

Hey Mary, is this joker the guy who was stalking you a few months back? Seems like a complete nut job.

Beautiful post Mary.......Is that a song or a poem? Did you write it??

Have a great Christmas everyone.

I don't know about Kyle. I'm wondering if there is a connection, Pero.

It's a song--"Mary, Did You Know?"

A little googling reveals that Mark Lowry wrote the words in 1984. Buddy Greene put it to music six years later.

It's one of my favorites.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Whit,

Kyle can't be bothered with facts.

The truth and lib propaganda talking points are usually at odds.

Merry Christmas!

mary,

funny how you call my comments spam but other comments comments. spam is attempt to get someone to purchase something. what's the matter? can you not tolerate anyone contradicting your world view?

rather than spending your time online, why don't you volunteer to help the weak?
as matter of fact i do spend two hours a week helping the blind and i also pay 10% of my net income to charity. but is also important to expose to republicans the moral profligacy that presently snake-strangles their party!

I want YOU to think long and hard this Christmas if Jesus really would approve of you hijacking someone's blog.
you call it hijacking i call it exposing you to the night-truth!

besides Jesus would approve of my opening your eyes to the spiritual darkness that has consumed the republican party. lobbying has doubled since bush came to power! so where's your answer to my question would Jesus approve of you stealing someone's child support payment and pocketing it the hands of bill gates, if not bill clinton himself?

I assume you invoke Jesus as a feeble attempt to claim you're on topic.
if it is so feeble then why can't you refute it?

Jesus was about action.
are you saying is that Jesus was not concerned for the poor

I support my church's food pantry. I supported a child for Christmas. I donate my time and money.

i find it bizzarre that you're willing to support the poor but you support a president that steals from them and gives it to the execs at exxon!

Someone as compassionate as you shouldn't be wasting his time bashing Republicans.
you call it bashing republicans i call it rescuing others from political nightmare - although i admit that is slightly quixotic - beside it only takes 15minutes.

whit,

food stamps:
Spending on food stamps went from $29 billion in 2004 to $33 billion in 2005 and is projected to remain there through 2009.

with the federal budget at over 2 trillion a measly four billion increase is probably less than one tenth of one percent.

Tax cuts stimulate the economy:
2005 saw a record increase of $275 billion in tax receipts.

that cannot be proven - you cannot prove with certainty what has caused the recent economic upturn. besides govt spending stimulates the economy just as much as does tax cuts. moreover who cares if the economy is booming if the poor are getting poorer and the rich are getting richer. the economy is growing but for whom?

yes, medicaid is increasing, but all your stats merely show that govt spending is increasing. by no means do they justify taking from the poor and giving to the rich.

Mary, I am so sorry this "person" found it's way to your blog. It has also followed links over to my place to leave off-topic rants in my comment thread, as well. I have warned that I will not tolerate it's off-topic rants at my place. You are well within your rights to delete it's comments, as I will do the next time it appears at my place.

You are discussing the light, and the hope of the world, and it is launching vitrious attacks against the President. How sad.

This "person" needs to get a life, and a soul tramsplant.

Merry Christmas, Mary, to you and yours.
