March Madness

The NCAA tournament first round game pitting the Marquette Warriors (also known by some as Golden Eagles) against Alabama has been postponed.

Tip-off was scheduled for 12:40PM CT. That start time has been delayed due to a bomb-sniffing dog picking up on a briefcase.

From the San Diego Union-Tribune:

The building was cleared and a search was under way. Fire Department bomb technicians were using a robot to examine the briefcase.

The alert comes on the heels of an FBI warning last Friday on the possibility of suicide bomb attacks against major sporting events in the United States.

Here is AP's account.

The dogs detected the package inside a 4-by-6-inch condiment container in a vendor cart outside Cox Arena at San Diego State University. A bomb robot was sent to the scene, FBI spokeswoman Jan Caldwell said.

The container was removed by police and a bomb squad, said Lorena Nava, a university spokeswoman.

Fans and officials were told to gather behind a parking structure across the street. They were allowed to return about two hours later.

I'm praying that the dog's reading was a false positive sniff.

The start time for the game has yet to be determined.

Go Marquette!
