Alert the Media

"Families United Mission is sending a letter to the media, reminding them of our fallen heroes and our troops' accomplishments in the War on Terror.

"We want the media to give Iraqi Liberation Week the coverage it deserves."

Read the
letter to the media from Families United for Our Troops and Their Mission.

(Excerpts)

As you may know, April 9th is Iraqi Liberation Day – the three-year anniversary of the end of Saddam Hussein’s torturous regime and the day that launched the people of Iraq down the challenging road toward freedom, democracy, and self-sufficiency. We are keenly aware that the national media is drawn towards covering milestones and we respectfully request that you not ignore this historic date.

...While many of us await the return of loved ones abroad, we are reminded that our military is comprised of compassionate, volunteer warriors dedicated to finishing the job. As democracy takes root, we have witnessed more Middle Eastern men and women vote in free and fair elections in the last twelve months, than in the last 6,000 years. Our troops understand this tenuous democracy abroad is paramount to our security at home.

Sadly, the national media focuses on the difficulties and glosses-over the achievements that our soldiers and the Iraqi people have accomplished together.

Families United will continue to tell the American people about our progress abroad, and we invite you to join us in recognizing this milestone: Iraqi Liberation Day, April 9th.

The letter is addressed to:

ABC News; David L. Westin, President
Boston Globe; Martin D. Baron, Editor
CBS News; Andrew J. Heyward, President
CNN News Group; Jim Walton, President
Los Angeles Times; Jeffrey M. Johnson, President and CEO
National Public Radio; Kevin Klose, President and CEO
NBC News; Steve Capus, Acting President
New York Times; William G. Keller, Executive Editor
Washington Post; Leonard Downie, Executive Editor

What are the odds of any of these outlets writing something positive about Iraq and all that our military men and women have accomplished there?

The odds are not good, which is even more reason to make your voice heard and let them know that you would like them to report the complete story on Iraq.

Let the media know that they should give credit to the troops for their commitment, their achievements, and their bravery.

The lib media seem to have an all or nothing stance when it comes to stories.

I understand the "if it bleeds, it leads" mentality adopted by the press, but I think it's a disservice to the public to ignore all the good that has happened in Iraq since Saddam's regime was overthrown.

It appears that the libs in the media just can't bring themselves to admit that our troops have accomplished a great deal and they have so many reasons to be proud.

I think their anti-Bush sentiment is so extreme that it prevents them from giving our troops the credit they deserve.

I, too, am grateful for their sacrifice.

I agree, Alise.

I think it's unfortunate that a few "anti-Rumsfeld" retired generals garner so much media attention, yet so little mention is made of the progress in Iraq.

It's an insult to the service and sacrifice of our military members and their families.
