Just when you thought the UN couldn't sink any lower, it does.
Its corruption knows no limits.
Although the UN most notably came under fire for its Oil-for-Food program, that is far from its only disgrace.
UN peacekeepers are still sexually abusing the weak and the vulnerable.
Although this corrupt operation doesn't involve billions of dollars, Food-for-Sex is just as despicable.
Monrovia -- United Nations peacekeepers, aid workers and teachers are having sex with Liberian girls as young as eight in return for money, food or favours, threatening efforts to rebuild a nation ruined by war, a report said on Monday.
Save The Children UK said an alarming number of girls were being sexually exploited by men in authority in refugee camps and in the wider community, sometimes for as little as a bottle of beer, a ride in an aid vehicle or watching a film.
...The 20-page document said local people reported sexual exploitation by peacekeepers in every location where a contingent of the UNMIL peacekeeping force was stationed, highlighting the continuing problem of sex abuse by UN forces.
Allegations of sexual misconduct have dogged UN operations in Liberia, Ivory Coast, Haiti and the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the world body has accused members of its biggest peacekeeping force of rape, paedophilia and giving children food or money in return for sex.
The UN force in Liberia said in a statement eight cases of sexual exploitation and abuse involving UN personnel had been reported since the start of 2006. One of those had been substantiated and the member of staff suspended.
"We are appalled with any activity, the sexual exploitation or abuse by aid workers, be they international or Liberian. It's unacceptable behaviour," Jordan Ryan, UN humanitarian co-ordinator in Liberia, told BBC radio from Monrovia.
...The report highlighted the relationship between food aid, poverty and sex, in particular accusations that some men involved in distributing food rations demanded sex in return.
"Unacceptable" is putting it mildly.
This is absolutely sick.
Little girls, as young as eight-years-old, are being abused by UN peacekeepers.
They aren't peacekeepers. They're sexual predators, preying on the suffering, poverty-stricken children of Liberia.
If you're not outraged by this, then you are morally deficient. It is heartbreaking to know that children are being victimized by the very people that were sent to help and protect them.
What is Amnesty International saying about this abuse perpetrated by the UN?
NOTHING! NOT ONE WORD.
The group is too busy monitoring the "US government creating a climate of torture."
"Amnesty International has reported evidence of widespread torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment of detainees held in US custody in Afghanistan, Guantánamo Bay, Iraq and other locations."
Meanwhile in Liberia, innocent children are forced to submit to sexual abuse by UN PEACEKEEPERS in order to get food.
It's shameful that Amnesty International slams the U.S., making our country its prime target, while dismissing the UN's human rights violations. The AI clearly is in the business of promoting a political agenda, not defending human dignity.
The United Nations is a complete mess.
Nevertheless, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, John McCain, and others of their ilk, think this unprincipled organization is the answer to the world's problems. I, on the other hand, think the UN has clearly shown itself to BE part of the problem.
The Dems are always insisting that the UN should play a prominent role in U.S. foreign policy. They believe we shouldn't make a move without getting the UN's approval first.
Why should we submit to such a corrupt, ineffective organization?
If the Dems are looking for a real "culture of corruption," they need look no further than the UN.
The UN is beyond redemption.

I completely agree, Mary - beyond Redemption.
I have no faith in the UN whatsoever.
That said, I do think that we must stay engaged.
It's better to have John Bolton there than to not have a strong American presence.
