Nuclear Apartheid

I'm beginning to get a better grasp on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's understanding of history.

The Holocaust was a myth cooked up to justify the harassment of Palestinians, but apartheid was real.

So, he evokes imagery of the racially discriminatory policies of South Africa to make his case for Iran's nuclear program.

Lebanon's Daily Star reports:

Ahmadinejad rejects 'nuclear apartheid,' demands respectPresident accuses adversaries of practicing double standard

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad vowed Friday that Iran would pursue fuel production for its controversial nuclear program and branded those trying to stop this as "bullies." "We intend to continue our activity ... until we manage industrial-scale production of nuclear fuel for our atomic power stations," Ahmadinejad said, according to the text of a speech he gave at a regional summit in Azerbaijan.

The Iranian president's comments in the Azerbaijani capital Baku came as Western powers, which fear Tehran secretly plans to build atomic weapons, pushed for a UN resolution requiring an end to uranium fuel enrichment.

Ahmadinejad told leaders from the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) that "bullies are insolently trying to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries."

At a later press conference, he said that "two or three" countries dominated international institutions that were meant to be serving the world.

"They have nuclear weapons and they say that you can't even have nuclear fuel for civilian purposes. If it's bad, why do they have it? If it's good, why do they not allow us to?" he said.

The Iranian leader said his country's "adversaries are waging a psychological war and trying to establish a nuclear apartheid to prevent our people from exercising their inalienable rights.

"I advise them not to repeat the experiences of the past and begin respecting the people of Iran," he added.

There are two possibilities:

1. Ahmadinejad suffers from some sort of psychosis and doesn't comprehend the impact of his warmongering.

2. Ahmadinejad is a liar and a tyrant bent on destroying Israel and begging to start a war.

His claim that the world's bullies (AKA the United States) are discriminating against Iran's right to pursue a "peaceful" nuclear program is ridiculous.

If Ahmadinejad's Iran was a responsible member of the international community and intent on promoting peace in the world, his argument would have some merit.

Since the guy can't go twenty-four hours without saber rattling and calling for the destruction of Israel, there is no way that he can be seen as trustworthy, not even remotely.

There's no double standard being applied. Iran would have to be a peace-loving nation for that to be the case.

Iran doesn't want peace. Iran is a rogue state led by a nutjob bent on annihilating Israel. That's the reality.

Given the clear policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding Israel, that country simply cannot be allowed to have a nuclear program.

The world cannot gamble on the possibility of Iran obtaining nuclear weapons.

As it is, Iran is a threat to peace in the Middle East. As a nuclear power, Iran could hold the entire Free World hostage.

The U.S. and our allies aren't bullies, practicing "nuclear apartheid."

We are acting with common sense and in the name of peace.
