At the Chicago rally yesterday, I think Barack Obama was overwhelmed by the throngs. He didn't sound like the moderate who spoke at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Instead, he pandered to the Left.
In a cheap move, he dealt the race card.
From the Chicago Daily Southtown:
"It's important to recognize that there is fear out there, there are those who want to turn back the clock," Obama said. "We have to reach out to those folks and explain to them that our future will be better together than divided.
"Citizenship has its obligations. Citizenship obliges us to have a common purpose. . . . .This movement has to be a movement that lifts up Americas ideals. There is nothing to fear. People who have come here have come here for the same reasons that generations have come — they want a better life for their children."
I really don't think this is about fear. This isn't racial. No one wants to "turn back the clock" on civil rights.
This is about upholding the law and securing our borders.
Yes, citizenship has its obligations.
FIRST, CITIZENSHIP OBLIGES US TO FOLLOW THE LAW.
Yes, for generations people have come here for a better life for their children --LEGALLY.
Obama may believe that it's politically expedient for him to ignore the law-breaking aspect of the issue and play up the fear and racial stuff.
Who knows? That approach may prove to be effective in terms of his personal political future.
That doesn't make it right.
