Timed for release after son Patrick's press conference, Senator Ted Kennedy issued this statement:
I love Patrick very much and am very proud of him. All of us in the family admire his courage in speaking publicly about very personal issues and fully support his decision to seek treatment. He has taken full responsibility for events that occurred Wednesday evening, and he will continue to cooperate fully in any investigation.
I have the rare and special honor of being able to serve with my son in the Congress, and I have enormous respect for the work Patrick has done. The people of the 1st District of Rhode Island have a tireless champion for the issues they care about, and today I hope they join me in feeling pride and respect for a courageous man who has admitted to a problem and taken bold action to correct it.
As his father, it is appropriate for Teddy to release such a statement. I certainly wouldn't expect him to point out the inconsistencies in his son's accounts of the accident, or focus on the suspect way the Capitol Police handled the matter.
HOWEVER, Teddy's assertion that Patrick is taking full responsibility for his behavior is a crock. Of course, compared to Teddy's antics, almost anyone seems responsible.
He crows about his feelings of pride and respect for his son. Fine.
No doubt, such statements are being reiterated by libs all over the country. Patrick Kennedy should be admired, not condemned.
BUT, where was the compassion for Rush Limbaugh? No one on the Left called him courageous for taking the "bold action" that he did.
From the Left, here's an illustration of compassion for someone struggling with addiction:
In 2004, The Liberal Avenger wrote about Rush Limbaugh's problem in "On Republican Drug Abuse."
Just recently, LA followed up on "Rush Limbaugh: The Oxycontin Kid."
"In honor of Rush Limbaugh turning himself in for being a hillbilly heroin addict after a warrant was issued for him," LA dragged out his previous post and opened the topic up for comments.

By the way, I’ve learned today some Oxycontin addicts insert the drug in their system analy for faster results. For Rush’s fat ass it must take a lot of dope.

I cite these comments as evidence of the absolutely disgusting double standard at play here.
The Patrick Kennedy scandal juxtaposed with Rush Limbaugh's addiction, coming just a week after a settlement was reached in the Limbaugh case, makes the hypocrisy of the Left even more glaring.
The double standards abound in Kennedy the Younger's story.
It's nauseating; but I think I'll pass on the Phenergan.

Of course there's a double standard there always has been. There's nothing new there.
He insisted yesterday that he had consumed “no alcohol” before he slammed his Mustang convertible into a concrete barrier near his office, but a hostess at a popular Capitol Hill watering hole told the Boston Herald she saw him drinking in the hours before the crash.
How would anyone know if he used alcohol when the police didn't give him a road side sobriety test.
The Swimmer says, ("The first paragraph of this post.")
What responsibility did he take for the events at Chappaquiddick|OK I Was Driving Drunk.
It is really unbelievable how the voters in Massachusetts continue to vote for these people. But they do and they will again.
Maybe Rhode Island's 1st Congressional District voters will wake up?
I can't stand the hypocrisy. It's so wrong.
Like so often, it's not just the offense but the cover-up that's the problem here.
Patrick Kennedy obviously thought that he was going to be able to weasel his way out of this. He was probably advised by the Kennedy Crisis Response Team.
He wasn't counting on people coming forward to discredit him. His story is so full of holes it's ridiculous.
The guy has got a serious substance abuse problem. It's a shame he didn't have the humility to own up to it honestly.
We're human. We all have our frailties.
BUT--when you hold elected office, you have to maintain your credibility. It was a major screw-up to lie.
You know, RJay, I don't think the voters of RI will turn on him.
If Massachusetts voters have kept Teddy in the Senate after all of his disgraces, I have no confidence that RI voters will give Pat the boot.
Maybe he should consider giving up his House seat, and focusing on getting his life together. He's a mess.
