Commencement Speaker Alan Hevesi Run Amok

Ken Starr lookalike Alan Hevesi admits that he said a very stupid thing at the Queens College commencement.

He joins a band of speakers, such as New York Times publisher Alan Sulzberger, Jr., that have used graduation ceremonies to spew their Bush hatred and push a fringe Leftist agenda.

NEW YORK (AP) -- State Comptroller Alan Hevesi publicly apologized Thursday for a "beyond dumb" remark about a fellow Democrat putting "a bullet between the president's eyes."

Hevesi called a mea culpa press conference hours after putting his foot in his mouth at the Queens College commencement.

"I apologize to the president of the United States" and to the fellow state politician, Sen. Charles Schumer, Hevesi said. "I am not a person of violence.

"Not a person of violence."

Nooooooo. Of course not. Hevesi is all about non-violence.

History's greatest peace advocates used such imagery.

Many times, Mahatma Gandhi talked about putting a bullet between someone's eyes.

Right.

"I am apologizing as abjectly as I can. There is no excuse for it. It was beyond dumb."

At the news conference, a contrite Hevesi repeated what he recalled saying in the speech. The comptroller said he was merely trying to convey that Schumer has strength and courage to stand up to the president on major policy issues.

Hevesi apologized as he should have; but it's too late really. He's exposed.

The truth is out there.

I'm not at all surprised that Hevesi would like to see Schumer put a bullet between the President's eyes. I'm somewhat surprised that he was so shockingly stupid.

How could he possibly think that he could get away with saying something like that?

With all due respect, Hevesi is an idiot.

According to a videotape of the speech, Hevesi said:

"The man who, how do I phrase this diplomatically, who will put a bullet between the president's eyes if he could get away with it. The toughest senator, the best representative. A great, great member of the Congress of the United States."

Note to Hevesi: That's not "diplomatic" phrasing.
...Hevesi, a longtime professor of government and politics at Queens College before becoming comptroller, also referred to his comments as "remarkably stupid" and "incredibly moronic."

"I do speak extemporaneously," he said. "And I've never said anything like this."

Hevesi is right. He's an incredible moron. (His words, not mine. I'd be more diplomatic in my choice of words.)

This guy is a "longtime professor of government and politics."

What a black eye for Queens College!

Schumer spokeswoman Risa Heller said the senator was satisfied with Hevesi's apology.

"Comptroller Hevesi was trying to make a point," Heller said. "He went way too far, and it was inappropriate and wrong. He has apologized to both the senator and the president, and we believe that ends the matter."

And here we have Chuckie Schumer basically saying, "No big deal. Let's move on."

Picture this:

Speaking about Bill Frist, Pat Robertson says, "The man who, how do I phrase this diplomatically, who will put a bullet between Hillary Clinton's eyes if he could get away with it. The toughest senator, the best representative. A great, great member of the Congress of the United States."

Do you think that there's a chance in hell that a news conference and simple apology would end the matter?

No way.
