Owen at Boots and Sabers says:
It’s official. Glenn Grothman is running for U. S. Senate.
Assuming that Owen is right, and I trust that he is, why hasn't Grothman made an announcement?
Why hasn't the Republican Party of Wisconsin splashed the fact that they FINALLY have a candidate to challenge Herb Kohl?
Why all the foot-dragging?
Can't Wisconsin Republican Party operatives summon up the energy to say something? Anything?
Is it that difficult to toss out a press release?
What's the problem? Can't let the race for U.S. Senate foul up weekend plans? Too busy mowing the lawn?
Since Grothman has agreed to run, I see no reason to delay making that public as soon as possible.
Kohl challengers should have been lining up a year ago. Republicans are so far behind that it's a joke.
Kohl SHOULD be forced to debate the issues, to actually say something of substance; not just dip into his personal fortune and run some campaign commercials. That SHOULD have been happening for months and months now.
This fall, Wisconsinites will be electing a governor and an attorney general. The U.S. House is up for grabs. The 2006 election in Wisconsin could only be more significant if it were also a presidential election year.
In spite of this, there have been no serious efforts to unseat Kohl.
I think it's disgusting that the state Republicans chose to surrender to Kohl, which is exactly what they did. Their submissive, defeatist strategy is a disgrace. They never intended to take Kohl on.
What kind of campaign can Grothman get together at this point?
A very weak one.
As it is, it seems that Grothman is being dragged kicking and screaming into the race.
I don't sense much enthusiasm AT ALL.
TO BE CLEAR, I'm not bashing Grothman. I'm bashing the Republican Party of Wisconsin on this one.
Nevertheless, at least the Republicans will put a name on the ballot and Kohl will have a challenger. Maybe now he'll have to answer a few questions and address a couple of the issues. Maybe.

As for my run for the Senate goes, I'm not making any official announcement on my plans until the Republican Party of Wisconsin and Glenn Grothman get around to making an official announcement on their plans.
It could be a while.
Don't hold your breath.
