The American Connection

On Friday, thousands of people took to the streets to protest Israel's military operations in Lebanon and Gaza.

Their anger wasn't just reserved for Israel. The U.S. was also condemned.

In addition to burning Israeli flags, American flags went up in flames.

Along with anti-Israeli and pro-Palestinian chants, protesters carried signs to convey their message:

"The honorable stance of the Islamic nation: I love you Hamas!"

"Stop U.S. aggression."

"We protest the Zionist terrosit gang's savagery and occupation of Palestine."

"Long live global intifadah!"

To say there's a lot of anger is an understatement.
In "Protesters rap Zionists," an account of the anti-Israeli protests in the Arab World and France, Gulf Daily News, "the voice of Bahrain," offered one protester's perspective.

"This terrorist nation is killing Muslims," Khan Ataur Rahman, one of the protesters, said. He also accused the United States of being behind the attacks.

I wonder how many believe that the U.S. is orchestrating the attacks.

I would guess that most of these protesters blame America for Israel's actions, at least to some degree.

The assumption seems to be that Israel isn't a sovereign nation, but a U.S. colony.

I wouldn't be surprised if the fringe American Left is harboring the same thoughts.

If they can believe that the Bush administration planned the 9/11 attacks, I'm sure they assume that the U.S. is behind the current hostilities in the Middle East.

The Kevin Barrett-type nuts probably think it's all a plot, laying the groundwork for the U.S. to engage in a massive war, designed to acquire every last drop of oil for Dick Cheney and his Big Oil buddies.

Ted Kennedy is most likely blabbing about this round of fighting in the Middle East being "cooked up in Texas."

If not yet, I predict some Dem will soon openly question the role of the Bush administration in Israel's military strikes.

The New York Times and Michael Isikoff are probably rummaging around, hoping to find some leaker willing to say, on condition of anonymity, that Karl Rove is responsible.

Always blame America first.
