Britney Spears' CYA

Oops!

Mother of two Britney Spears is having second thoughts.

She's realizing that maybe she's had a little too much
exposure lately.

NEW YORK -- After igniting a media firestorm by flashing her apparent lack of underwear to the paparazzi, Britney Spears is finally talking. "It's been so long since I've been out on the town with friends," the singer writes in a posting Thursday on her Web site.

"It's also been 2 years since I've even celebrated my birthday. Every move I make at this point has been magnified more than I expected, and I probably did take my new found freedom a little too far. Anyway, thank God for Victoria's Secrets' new underwear line! I look forward to a new year, new music and a new me."

Go to her website and you're immediately met with her mea culpa, and a holiday greeting.

How weird!

"I regret that I begged the paparazzi to take graphic photos of me sans underwear. Oh, and Happy Holidays everyone!"

Good grief.

Spears, MOTHER OF TWO, is really a mess. The statement on her website is classic damage control. This is a case of literal CYA.

It probably took an intervention from various handlers, agents, record company executives, and most importantly, her accountant to convince Spears that it was time to apologize for being a naughty girl.

It really was a terrible judgment lapse.

If Spears wanted to capitalize on her "new found freedom," she should have contacted Larry Flynt.
