Bogged Down in Iraq

According to Robert Gates, Iran sees the U.S. as vulnerable in Iraq.

The Iranians have been listening to the Dems. They believe that we are bogged down and weakened.

Like Dems wishing to exploit the war in Iraq for personal power, maniac Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wants to do the same.

BRUSSELS, Belgium -- Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Monday that new U.S. military moves in the Persian Gulf were prompted in part by signals from Iran that it sees the United States as vulnerable in Iraq.

"The Iranians clearly believe that we are tied down in Iraq, that they have the initiative, that they are in a position to press us in many ways," Gates told reporters at NATO headquarters before flying to Kabul to meet with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and to visit U.S. soldiers and commanders.

...Gates' comment about Iran perceiving the U.S. military as bogged down in Iraq appeared to reflect a concern felt by many in the Pentagon in connection with deepening U.S. involvement in Iraq. U.S. officials want to knock down any speculation that the burdens of war in Iraq might present an opportunity for adventurism by U.S. adversaries elsewhere in the world, including Iran and North Korea.

Iran's increasing assertiveness is a cause for concern among many Gulf nations ruled by Sunni Arabs, including Saudi Arabia. They worry that U.S. failure in Iraq would further embolden the Iranians, whose links to Shiite extremists in the region are seen as a threat to U.S.-allied Gulf nations.

Gates has indicated he would like the Saudis and other Gulf nations to do more, particularly with economic assistance, to help stabilize Iraq.

Gee, I wonder why Axis of Evil Iran perceives the U.S. as vulnerable.

Could it be because the Dems have been shouting about the quagmire in Iraq since 2003, undermining the war effort, and dividing the country?

Read what Ahmadinejad had to say on Monday, as reported by the Islamic Republic News Agency:
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said here Monday, "The United States is faced with numerous problems for encountering the Islamic Republic of Iran today."

According to IRNA's dispatched reporter to Quito, President Ahmadinejad made the comment on Monday morning local time, in a meeting with visiting Cuban Vice President Carlos Jorge, adding, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has adopted the necessary preemptive measures in order to annul the effects of illegal US sanctions." The president elaborated on Tehran's policies in that respect, emphasizing, "Iran's resistance against the oppressive system (of the United States) is the symbol of resistance of the entire independent countries of the world against totalitarianism of oppressive powers." Ahmadinejad added, "Iran's victory in this campaign, too, equals the victory of all independent nations and countries."

Focusing on latest developments in Iraq and related issues, he said, "The Americans have done their best to weaken the new Iraqi government and spared no effort in that respect and are now willing to find a new justification for prolonging their hegemony in Iraq." The president added, "With the passage of each new day the wrath of the Iraqi nation against the aggressors increases and the time is by no means passing in their favor."

Calling the Iraqi government "an elected and legitimate political system", Ahmadinejad added, "Any more day of the aggressors' stay in Iraq puts them under more questions than the before."

He also criticized the illogical behavior of the United States throughout the world, emphasizing, "The Americans cannot act without creating trouble and the roots of their trouble making are in their way of viewing the affairs and the US mentality."

The President added, "They do not care the slightest bit about the right of the other nations, considering themselves the absolute rulers of the entire world and that is the reason why their decisions are not rational and with each decision they make they face new problems."

Ahmadinejad is echoing the things said by Dem politicians.
Iraq is a disaster.

America is losing the war.

Bush is arrogant.

Bush is irrational.

Bush is stupid.

In short, Ahmadinejad sounds like a typical liberal.

He sounds like former President Jimmy Carter. He sounds like former Vice President Al Gore, and Nancy Pelosi and John Murtha and Harry Reid and and John Kerry and Joe Biden and Barack Obama and Russ Feingold and on and on.

Ahmadinejad also sounds like the libs in Republicans' clothing, Chuck Hagel and Gordon Smith.

Instead of demanding an American defeat, why aren't Bush's critics coming up with a strategy for victory in Iraq?

Why not put all the energy that they put into bashing Bush into winning the war?

Why whine incessantly about the problems without offering any suggestions for solutions?

Why are they willing to be on Ahmadinejad's team?

Like Ahmadinejad, they're opportunists.

In a way, they're worse than Ahmadinejad. He's not an American.
