Bay View Crime

First, it was Tenuta's.

Now, it's Bella's Fat Cat in Bay View.

A man brandishing a gun robbed Bella's Fat Cat in Bay View overnight, Milwaukee police said this morning.

Police said the man walked into the restaurant at 2737 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. about 9:54 p.m. and demanded money before taking a cash tray.

No one was hurt.

Thankfully, no one was hurt, but it has to hurt business.

Why would someone go to Bella's between 9:00 and 11:00 pm?

Who would want to be eating there or even going in for take out and worry about being faced with a thief with a gun?

To say that this report from The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is skimpy on facts is putting it mildly.

It appears the thief has not been arrested, right?

Is there a description of the man?

It would help to get that information out there.

The renaissance that the Bay View area is experiencing could easily be thwarted.

Why invest in a business there if the crime from neighboring areas of the city is spilling into Bay View?

Why put yourself at risk by shopping and dining or living there?

It's sad that people are spending money, trying to bring new life to parts of Milwaukee, and they aren't being supported with the necessary security.

What's Mayor Tom Barrett's answer to Bay View crime?

I imagine he'll say he's outraged and blame the state legislature for not passing tougher gun laws. Same old, same old.

What's Governor Jim Doyle's response?

He can't be bothered. He's been reelected. He's busy in his Madison lair thinking about his next tax increase.

Of course, if a crime wave hit casinos, Doyle would be sending in the National Guard.

Meanwhile, the state's largest city suffers a slow-bleed.

I agree what a crime wave! Mayor Barrett has done more to bolster the ranks of the MPD than anyone in recent memory. I have noticed with some curiosity your constant slamming of Mayor Barrett and was wondering if you have any ideas of your own? Barrett proposed 100 new officers to combat crime, he proposed running the counties PIC(because Walker can't) to bolster jobs, he proposed expanding transportation in MKE to help local business and he created the Summer Jobs program to employ 1500 youth keeping them out of trouble. So when you blast someone I just have to ask, what have you or Scott Walker done to help this region? Probably nothing except complaining.

Interesting logic. If everyone is allowed to carry guns Milwaukee would be a much safer city. For example, you would expect Detroit to have a lower murder and violent crime rate than Milwaukee because Michigan has conceal carry. If that logic holds, then Atlanta and New Orleans would also have lower crime and murder rates than Milwaukee because they have conceal carry laws. Sadly, your logic is flawed and so is your weak argument. As an example, here are the latest murder and violent crime rates per 100,000 people in the major US cities. Following the name of the city is whether that state allows for conceal carry. Funny how 5 out of 6 cities with the worst crime and murder rates also have conceal carry. I’m sorry, what again is your antiquated argument? (For the record, I live on the far South Side.)

Murder-highest
Las Vegas -yes
Atlanta- yes
Detroit- yes
Baltimore- no
New Orleans- yes

Crime- highest
Baltimore- no
Las Vegas- yes
Miami- yes
Detroit- yes
Atlanta- yes

roasted peanuts,

Stop cherry picking.

48 STATES HAVE SOME FORM OF CONCEALED CARRY.

That shoots your argument full of holes.

Do some research on concealed carry and the impact on crime rates.

Clearly, you're a shill for Tom Barrett.

Good points, Whirl-away.

If Barrett is going to take credit for what he's done to address crime, then he also has to take responsibility for where he's failed.
