Antonio J. Jones

UPDATE, February 8, 2008: Antonio Jones sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Barbaric.

Savage.

Monstrous.

Those words are frequently applied to terrorists, our enemies.

I think they aptly describe 16-year-old Antonio Jones.

At 3:00 pm on Wednesday, Jones murdered Scott Huggins while he was at the Citgo station at 4302 W. Capitol Drive in Milwaukee.

Jones was robbing Huggins when he shot him to death.

Huggins was an electrician and volunteered as a boxing coach, helping youth and serving the community. He was 44, married, a father of four and grandfather of six.

Besides robbing Huggins of his life, Jones stole a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a model member of society.

Utterly senseless.

This thug walked up to Huggins while he was filling his gas tank, tried to rob him and then killed him.

Barbaric. Monstrous.

On Friday, Jones was charged as an adult.

From The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

A 16-year-old boy was charged as an adult Friday with first-degree intentional homicide in the fatal shooting of a Waukesha boxing coach during a robbery at a busy Milwaukee gas station.

Antonio J. Jones faces a possible sentence of life plus 25 years in prison in the death of Scott Huggins, 44, at a Citgo station at 4302 W. Capitol Drive.

Jones, of the 5100 block of N. 64th St., is charged with committing the killing while armed and with attempted armed robbery, use of force, according to a criminal complaint.

...According to the complaint issued by Assistant Milwaukee County District Attorney Mark Williams and based on the accounts of two boys, ages 16 and 17, who were with Jones at the time of the shooting:

About 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, the boys were in the area of N. 1st and W. Palmer streets when Jones displayed a snub-nosed revolver and suggested that they rob someone.

The trio then boarded a Milwaukee County Transit System bus on their way to Custer High School, 5075 N. Sherman Blvd., and got off the bus at W. Sherman Blvd. and W. Capitol Drive.

The three then walked to the gas station, where Jones crept up on Huggins, who was filling up his SUV with gasoline, the complaint says; Jones pulled out the gun and pointed it at Huggins, who shouted a couple of profanities and appeared to try to grab the gun.

One of the boys told police that he then heard possibly two shots go off.

Huggins stumbled and collapsed at the door of the gas station, the complaint says.

These sociopaths need to be taken off the streets now.

They aren't victims of poverty, or joblessness, or hopelessness.

Jones is a cold-blooded killer.

Where are the parents or guardians of these three young men?

Did they teach them to respect life, work hard, study, and take responsibility to be good individuals and assets to society?

If they didn't, they should have taught their children those lessons.

Parents must instill morals in their children.

Killing, other than in self-defense, is immoral. No excuses.

I have no sympathy for these sixteen and seventeen-year-olds. No one is to blame for Huggins' death but Jones. He pulled the trigger. He shot Huggins once in the abdomen and once in the back.

Jones chose to kill him.

Society hasn't failed Jones. Society can't be blamed.

Jones doesn't get a pass for deciding to gun down a man because there aren't enough jobs in the city. That's an excuse and a lame one.

Jones did not shoot Huggins twice because there needs to be tougher gun laws, as Mayor Barrett would like citizens to believe.

Guns are inanimate objects. Guns don't commit murder.

Jones does.

So is this the last straw?

Will Milwaukee's leaders finally say, "ENOUGH"? Will residents
finally say, "We will not tolerate this"?

They've said it all before whenever some horrific crime gets a lot of attention in the media.

We've heard it all before: This is it. This is such a disturbing crime that we are compelled to addresss the problem. After a few days, that's forgotten.

There are no signs that Milwaukee's leaders are going to start seriously addressing this senseless loss of life.

Clearly, Milwaukee needs new leaders. Tom Barrett does NOTHING but wring his hands, muster up some anger, and whine about inadequate gun legislation from Madison.

Police Chief Nan Hegerty is retiring in November, but that doesn't excuse her. For now, she's in charge.

There can be no tolerance whatsoever for Antonio J. Jones.

NO EXCUSES.

Lock these pigs up and forget where the key is.

Jones should be put away for life, which is showing more mercy than he showed Scott Huggins.

Jones should be executed.......As should all murderers.

Instead the taxpayer will get to pay for his every existence for the rest of his life.........Pathetic.

Hmmm..... Jones clearly has problems.

But what about that sicko White cop who beat up the woman bartender in Chicago? Why not write a post about him?

It was all over CNN as a video captured this nuts attack on her. Brutal. He should go to jail for battery, not just lose his job!!!

Why not talk about that?

That man is as sick as Jones is. Why give him a pass?

Hello?!?!?

Zennie, this isn't about race at all.

It's about a thug murdering a man in cold blood.

I'm not giving the white cop in Illinois a pass in any way.

Sorry you didn't find the topic that you wanted here.

(I guess I should put up a "request a post" thread.)

Bottom line: If you were more familiar with this blog, you'd realize what a misguided comment you made.

I disagree with you all. Yeah what he did was wrong but do you even know Antonio? Do you know his past and all the stuff he been through in life? I guess not but you think all ppl who murder are the same.

Don't judge somebody you don't know! In that case, you all are some close minded no good people who waste there time picking apart other people.

Get a life.

I don't know what Jones has been through in his life.

You seem to be suggesting that you do.

If Jones has been faced with difficult experiences, that's regrettable. I have great compassion for people's suffering.

That said, having a tough life does not give one license to murder.

I've faced some extreme challenges in my life. I don't use them as excuses to steal and kill.

Nobody said he did have that right...yea... I do know what he had been through but when you have parents who aren't to much of an influence...you either tend to be like them, or you turn out the exact opp. Look around. Is there really something for teens in milwaukee to do these days? Go around and ask everybody...beat u nything the answer would all be the same

Not saying he was right in any way nor did he have the right to kill...just don't think teens who kill are all the same...different things make different people act a certain way.

I agree. Everyone is unique, with different experiences.

As you said, Jones' difficult circumstances didn't give him the right to end Huggins' life.

I completely disagree that teens are robbing and killing because they have nothing else to do.

I don't buy that teens are so stupid and incompetent that they have no choice but to flounder around the city, getting in trouble.

I give them much more credit than that. I'm not into the soft bigotry of low expectations.

NENA, All the murders are the same.. they are murders.

Would you fell sympathy for Antonio if it was your husband, father, or grandfather he senselessly killed?

Hi, im kristina huggins. Scott Huggins is my dad. I agree with the death penalty. I wish more than anything in the world WI had that. Wether your a thug, homeless, uneducated or even a wealthy prosperous person, you know right from wrong. You know not to murder someone. Him having an exscuse his mom drank when she was pregnant with him, is bull crap. Yes, i kind of think about, if your raised by questionable people and in an unsafe place, what do you expect as an outcome, but never the less, i fell his punishment should equal the same as his crime. Not only did he murder my Dad, in a sense, he did the same to my whole family. Almost a year later, I still cant make it through the day without crying, mostly at night, buthe killed my soul, im left to rebuild my life, i just dont know what to do without my dad.

Kristina, my heart breaks for you and your family.

Take care.

Hi, This is Sharie, Scott's baby sister. It will be 2 years this March since Antonio Jones took the life of my only brother and took a large part of who i am as well. As hard as it is still to cope with and live with, it is not over. Antonio Jones has requested a post conviction hearing date for January 29th, 3 days after my brother would have celebrated his 46th birthday as he is complaining that he does not understand his plea or his sentencing. The state of Wisconsin needs to support the death penalty for barbarick crimes such as this rather than wasting people and families time and tears knowing that a life for a life doesnt exist and is not manditory in each and every state in america.

Its been so long since this happened. And I find Im still coming and reading the articles, for whatever reason. Still miss him tremendously and cant seem to move on. I hope his killer is suffering every day just as much as I am. The older I get, the worse its been getting. That kid ruined so many lives.
