I'm going to make a diagnosis of my own. If Cottle is qualified to make judgments about Cheney's mental state, I'm certainly qualified to pass judgment on Rock.
Chris Rock appears to suffer from a disorder similar to Tourette's Syndrome.
I've been aware of it since last Tuesday.
Rock keeps blurting out that President Bush is retarded.
I first heard him say it on Late Night with Conan O'Brien.
He repeated it in an interview that appeared in Life.
Now on Saturday Night Live, Rock said it again.
SNL alum Rock was given the opening segment. Sitting behind a desk, he analyzed the 2008 presidential field, commenting on some Republican and Democrat candidates.
After predicting that Barack Obama would become the next president, he once again displayed his troubling disorder.
Rock can't control himself.
Rock said:
And for those doubters out there who keep asking the question is America ready for a black president-- I say, why not? We just had a retarded one.
The crowd erupted in laughter and applause.
Then, Rock screamed:
By the way, Live from New York, it's Saturday Night.
He just can't stop saying that President Bush is retarded.
It's so stupid. He sounds like a 2nd grader hurling insults on the school playground.
I think Rock is in dire need of an intervention.
The guy needs help.
At the very least, he needs some new material, something actually funny.

it is no secret that W was and still is not presidential material. had it not been for his father's connections as well as the cronies from his dad's administration and a corruption of our country's once great election system, he would not be president. to say he is retarded is simplistic and reactionary, true. however, he is not a smart man, nor is he and educated man. it is only once he squandered all international goodwill and lost the party majority in the House has he started to accept responsibility for his lies and deceit and begun to take a more moderate stance. coincidence? i think not.
i also find it ironic that in your memorable quotes section, there is a statement from W about America refusing to be an empire in favor of justice and glory. America may not be an empire, but it definitely is a staging ground for the Bush empire via the Carlyle Group and Halliburton. the words that W uttered were not from his heart, but rather those from a well paid speech writer's.
let's be honest here. if you were to compare W with the likes of Ronald Reagan, you get an idea about how unpresidential he really is. RR is a tower of charisma and strength compared to the smirking prankster we have in office riding on the coattails of his daddy's political connections.
i'm not in favor of any reactionary stance be it from the left or the right. it's not about 'left' or 'right', but more about what will help to make our country stronger and smarter with educated citizens who learn to build consensus and work to build up our neighbors instead of tearing them down. in my opinion, W is not the kind of president we need. he is a purveyor of ignorance, opportunism, and collossal greed - not very admirable qualities from someone who proclaims himself to be a born again Christian.

Ah. I think I can end this right here. Mary, if you really weren't impacted by what Chris Rock said, you would not have went to the trouble to post the video.
If you were in a room full of people watching him do this rant, they -- and you -- would have laughed out loud, and you know it! You can't ignore crowd dynamics. And that's the point -- it was so effective it upset you, after you stopped laughing. But Chris is right if you stop to listen to the video.
It's ridiculous to say that posting something from YouTube is a reflection of the impact Rock's "comedy" had on me.
You can't draw such conclusions.
The extent to which something impacts me is not necessarily connected to what I blog about.
For example, I rarely mention the people and things that matter most to me -- my family.
I was with others when I saw Rock make his "retarded" comment, both on Conan O'Brien's show and SNL.
We weren't laughing at all.
