St. Francis Blockbuster Robbed

I don't think that Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is happy that the latest armed robbery occurred just outside his city's limits; but he must be at least a little bit relieved that technically this one isn't his problem.

From The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

A Blockbuster Video store was robbed at gunpoint last night, extending a recent spree of 20 robberies in the Bay View area further south into nearby St. Francis.

St. Francis Police Chief Brian Kaebisch said his investigators are in contact with Milwaukee police "now that we are a part of what appears to be the same person or persons involved in these activities."

The suspect entered the store at 2300 E. Layton Ave. about 10:55 p.m. He displayed a silver handgun when he demanded money from the store manager, Kaebisch said. There was also another employee and a customer in the store. The man fled after obtaining money.

Kaebisch said the man concealed his face and wore a white, hooded sweatshirt. He was described as a white male, about 5-feet-10-inches to 6-feet-2-inches in height and weighing 200 to 250 pounds. He wore dark jeans and brown gloves.

So, the string of robberies continues unabated.


There are similarities-- the hooded sweatshirt, the gloves, the white male.

This suspect is described as taller. That's different.

What's also different is that the Blockbuster robbery took place the following day after the RadioShack robbbery. In the past, at least a day, usually more, separated the crimes.

As I've pointed out before, not all twenty robberies have been carried out by one man or a white man.

There's not just one guilty man out there responsible for the crimes.

Also, the Blockbuster that was robbed last night is on Layton Ave., not far from the Perkins that was robbed a few weeks ago.

While this Blockbuster is not in the city of Milwaukee, it's right on the edge.

Milwaukee officials and Mayor Tom Barrett shouldn't be relieved that the latest robbery falls outside city limits. The impact of that Blockbuster being hit is the same as if it happened in Milwaukee.

The airport abutts Layton Ave. It's not good that visitors or business travelers to Milwaukee step off a plane and into an area where two armed robberies took place within the last month.

This is new. The far south side of Milwaukee didn't used to be like this.

It demands immediate and significant action.

One more thing--

Why do you think a Bay View business wasn't robbed last night?

Could it be that the media finally is covering the story and there was a noticeable police presence in Bay View?
