The Culture of Corruption rears its ugly head.
Democrat William Jefferson's abuse of power has come back to bite him.
WASHINGTON -- An indictment charging Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., in a long-running bribery investigation is being announced Monday, federal officials said.
The indictment is being handed up in U.S. District Court in Alexandria. A press conference was being organized for late Monday in Washington to discuss the case.
A Justice Department official familiar with the case said the indictment outlining the evidence against Jefferson is more than an inch thick and charges the congressman with crimes that could keep him in prison for up to 200 years. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case.
Almost two years ago, in August 2005, investigators raided Jefferson's home in Louisiana and found $90,000 in cash stuffed into a box in his freezer.
Jefferson, 63, whose Louisiana district includes New Orleans, has said little about the case publicly but has maintained his innocence. He was re-elected last year despite the looming investigation.
I think it's amazing that Jefferson's constituents re-elected him. It smacks of the recall victory of Milwaukee thug Alderman Michael McGee.
Why do these voters allow these crooks and liars to remain in office?
I don't get it. The way I see it their supporters become complicit in the crimes and the corruption that make its way into government. The voters bear some responsibility when they knowingly choose criminals to be their representatives.
Bottom line--
William Jefferson's story should be a lesson to all public officials: Don't accept bribes and don't stuff $90,000 in cash in your freezer. Not a good idea.

When Katrina happened and Jefferson used his power as a congresscritter to commandeer an Army vehicle and troops to transport him thru the floodwater's so he could check on HIS house, I knew then that all he was, was another Louisiana DemocRAT and I thought then, "He'll get his..."
Then the Feds nailed him, on camera, taking money and I thought then, "He'll get his..."
Then they really went after him and recovered all the 'cold cash' and I thought, "Awesome, NOW he's gonna get his..."
Let me let you into something if you don't know, it took forever and a day to bring former Louisiana governor Edwin W. Edwards up on federal charges and even longer to convict him of racketeering charges...
We all KNOW that this asshat Jefferson is as guilty as sin, but don't think that he's headed for the federal pen just yet, it's Louisiana and a lot stranger things have happened in that states politics...
And you can bet you bippy, that just like Edwards before him, this crooked SOB could be convicted and jailed and the people of Louisiana wouldn't hesitate to elect him again, he's a Dem, it's Louisiana, and they don't care about 'crooks'...
And I am originally 'from' Louisiana, so, I don't think I'm speaking out of turn, it's people like him that make decent people leave Louisiana and become Conservatives...
I hope justice is served and Jefferson pays for his crimes.
I don't get how the people of Louisiana and New Orleans can complain about the shortcomings of the federal government when they seem to grant their local government a pass.
