Barbara Lawton, Mark Green, and John Kerry

The bitter John Kerry is obstructing President Bush just for obstruction's sake.

Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton has joined the effort to get Kerry to lift his unreasonable hold on Mark Green's nomination to be ambassador to Tanzania.

Read
Lawton's letter to Kerry.

She writes:

I was enthusiastic in my support for your candidacy for president in 2004. I was on the ticket opposing Mark Green’s gubernatorial bid last year. Mark Green and I disagree on many issues, but those differences do not negate the fact that he is well-suited to serve our nation as ambassador to Tanzania.

I appreciate your thoughtful and critical consideration of diplomatic appointments, but Mark Green’s does not fall into the category of payback for a campaign contributor. Mark Green brings cultural appreciation and competency that stems from family roots in Africa and was developed in his years in the Peace Corps in Kenya. When you combine that deep, personal commitment to a troubled continent with political acuity and experience, Mark Green is poised to perform very well as a diplomat and we stand to benefit from his service.

I agree with our Senators Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold that Mark Green’s nomination should not suffer the shadow of a recess appointment.

Translation:

Dear Senator Kerry,

I respectfully request that you stop being such a doofus.
