Bridge Collapse Disaster in Minneapolis

What happened?

MINNEAPOLIS -- A freeway bridge spanning the Mississippi River collapsed during evening rush hour Wednesday, sending many cars into the water.

Tons of concrete collapsed and there were injuries, authorities said. Survivors were being carried up the riverbank.

Some people were stranded on parts of the bridge that weren't completely submerged.

The entire span of the Interstate 35W bridge collapsed about 6:05 p.m. where the freeway crosses the river near University Avenue in Minneapolis.

The images of the collapse are absolutely horrific.

People are being rescued. There are some confirmed deaths.

Right now, there are far more questions than answers.

What's certain is that the lives of many, many people will never be the same.

Prayers for the victims and their families.

Prayers for the fire crews, police, and other first responders on the scene.

Listen up Mary!
I'm guessing you're too much of a coward to post my comments here. Whether you do or don't, listen to me.

I used to live there. I know that area. That's a quite busy stretch or highway.

Gov. Timmuh Pawlenty is a cheapskate. One of thos demagogues who yaps about saving taxpayer money. Like a Scott Walker.

Not blaming this on him, but remember, we DO NEED TO SPEND on things that are important. Not on Dubya's misadventures elsewhere in the world. If Pawlenty truly cared, he'd order the state to go on a massive road-improvement project the way Wisconsin has been doing.

You conservatives need to realize that cutting taxes sometimes leads to dangerous consequences. Raising taxes isn't a bad thing!

Johnny, you need a drug test.
Libs object to highway spending.
Even Diamond Jim Doyle CUT BACK on the GARGANTUAN Marquette interchange construction project.
These highways are our future, our commerce arteries, and the very conduits to those coming for Potatatomi, State Fair, Summerfest,
The Brewers and Bucks, and very path from Chicago to points beyond.
Lib goofs/hacks like Johnny the rapist Norquist, fought any and every expansion of highway transportation infrastructure.
Meanwhile another liberal HACK Tom "money bags" Ament gave away hundreds of millions so he could get HIS share.
So obviously Scott Walker is to blame.
Face it Johnny, you have no clue how econ works, and like most libs, you don't care as long as you are yours get to spend others monies.
Dismissed.

What's wrong with you, Johnny?

Oh, that's right. You're a liberal.

You posted your comment just three hours after the bridge collapse and your thoughts go to bashing conservatives.

You connect the bridge collapse to what you call "Dubya's misadventures."

That's sick.

Libocrat is right. Dismissed.

Isn't this guy so typical of conservatives?
You now understand why people are so cynical of their elected leaders?

Dismissed.

You said you weren't blaming Pawlenty. Now you are.

Pick a lib talking point and stick with it, OK?
