Hainstock: Possibility of Parole in 30 Years

BARABOO, Wis. -- Eric Hainstock is sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 30 years for the shooting death of his principal.

The sentence was issued Friday, one day after a jury found the 16-year-old boy guilty of first-degree intentional homicide in the death of Weston Schools Principal John Klang last September.

Life in prison is mandatory in first-degree murder convictions, the most serious offense under Wisconsin law. But judges are allowed to grant parole eligibility dates. Sauk County Circuit Judge Patrick Taggart said Hainstock would be eligible for parole in 30 years, when he is 46. He also urged the state's Department of Corrections place him a juvenile center, but he said he could not for them to do that because of state statutes.

"I do believe you can be rehabilitated," the judge told Hainstock.

Really?

More later.
