Russ Feingold's Censure Sideshow

Russ Feingold and Maurice Hinchey did as they promised. They introduced resolutions to censure President Bush, Vice President Cheney, and Attorney General Gonzales.

Sen. Russ Feingold has introduced resolutions that would censure President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales for what Feingold calls the Bush administration's misleading the nation into war, and undermining the rule of law.

In the House, Rep. Maurice Hinchey, D-N.Y., introduced companion resolutions.

"Congress cannot stay silent when the American people are demanding that this administration be held accountable for its blatant misconduct regarding Iraq and its attack on the rule of law," Feingold, D-Wis., said in a statement Monday.

"From misleading this country into invading Iraq to establishing a warrantless domestic spy program, this White House has continuously misled and deceived the American people while disregarding the rule of law that guides our democracy," Hinchey said in a statement Monday.

...Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, co-sponsored both Senate resolutions, while Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., co-sponsored the one about Iraq. Nineteen House Democrats, including Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, co-sponsored the House resolutions.

This is disgusting.

I'm embarrassed that Feingold is a senator from Wisconsin.

What's his problem?

Is he bored?

After he bailed on his presidential bid, did he become restless?

I think Feingold wants attention and this censure thing is the way to get it. He doesn't want to lose the allegiance of his fringe Left following.

It really amounts to little more than a pathetic sideshow.

The Democrat presidential candidates are in the spotlight. As enticing to the lib media as Feingold's censure move may be, they're too busy with Hillary and Obama and Edwards to waste their time on his goofy stunt.

Plus, Feingold's timing couldn't be worse.

He wants the Senate to censure the President and the Attorney General for a program that the body just voted to expand!

WASHINGTON -- The Senate, in a high-stakes showdown over national security, voted late Friday to temporarily give President Bush expanded authority to eavesdrop on suspected foreign terrorists without court warrants.

...The Senate vote was 60-28. Both parties had agreed to require 60 votes for passage.

Can Feingold really be so out of touch that he believes his colleagues will vote to censure Bush after they just voted to keep the wiretapping program alive?

This censure movement is dead on arrival -- dead as Feingold's presidential dreams.
