UPDATE, June 24, 2010: Peggy West is getting national attention, and not in a good way.
What an embarrassment!

Milwaukee County Supervisor Peggy West has been receiving death threats.
I guess that can happen when a 14-year-old child accused of shooting a 13-year-old child is close friends with your daughter and you cooperate with police.
MILWAUKEE -- A gang-related shooting involving young teens hit too close to home for a Milwaukee official.
Police said a 13-year-old boy was shot outside of county Supervisor Peggy West's home.
West said the 14-year-old accused of the shooting is her daughter, Kai's, close friend.
She said after she helped police find the shooter, she started getting death threats against her and her family and someone removed a piece of fence on her property.
She said the problems started when her daughter saw the shooting firsthand.
According to police reports, Kai West saw two teens on bikes ride by the home flashing gang signs.
She said her friend pulled out a gun and started shooting, hitting the 13-year-old in the back.
On August 3, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported the shooting. However, there were no details in the little blurb that Peggy West was involved in the case.
El Conquistador, a Milwaukee newspaper, made that connection.
West should be commended for assisting police.
She did what any decent citizen should do. She had information relating to a crime and she helped police find the perpetrator.
Her reward?
She was threatened.
The death threats that she and her family have received indicate how thugs manage to reign over some of the city's streets.
(Calling Mayor Tom Barrett.... Crisis? What crisis?)
Because of West's position and good reporting by El Conquistador, this case of intimidation has come to light.
West didn't abide by the Stop Snitchin' rules and she's paying the price.
It's this thug culture that has allowed the killer of Jasmine Owens to get away with murder.
I wonder if it was a surprise to West that Kai's "close friend" was a gang member, that this "close friend" had a gun and didn't hesitate to use it.
I wonder if it was a surprise to Kai. Was she "close" enough to know?
Who knows?
I do know that friends don't let friends get death threats.

Peggy West commented on the incident this morning on Charlie Sykes' show.
West said the shooting took place about a block away from her home and claimed she didn't know the 14-year-old had a gun.
"I don't have a metal detector at my home. I don't make it a habit to frisk my daughter's friends," she explained. "I assume because they're 14-years-old they're not carrying firearms. That is something I have learned a valuable lesson on."
She sounds a little defensive, doesn't she?
A few things--
West doesn't know her daughter's friends very well.
West doesn't know her daughter very well.
West needs a metal detector at her home.
