Christmastime is Here

'Tis the season!

Milwaukee's
CHRISTMAS TREE was lit on Wednesday.

The Salvation Army bell ringers are already at their red kettles.

Santa is staked out in some malls to visit with boys and girls.

And the traditional parades are set to usher in the season.

TMJ4 has posted a list of holiday appearances by its on air personalities.

Anchors Carole Meekins and Mike Jacobs lead off for TMJ4 by appearing in Milwaukee's parade tomorrow, scheduled to kick off at 9:30 AM.

It's Milwaukee's
81st annual "Holiday Parade." (Note: For the vast majority of those 81 years, it was known as the "Christmas Parade.")

I noticed that there are no TMJ4 sportscasters scheduled to be in any parades, at least not at this point. That duty apparently falls to the news and weather departments. The parades are mainly Saturday and Sunday events. That may have something to do with why the sportscasters have no appearances scheduled.

This might be of interest to some.

John Mercure will be appearing in the Menomonee Falls parade on Sunday, November 25. That means deadbeat dads and moms, online predators, and fallen Catholic priests can breathe a bit easier for a few hours that day.

Let this holy season of glad tidings, good cheer, and joy begin!

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion"

Taken from a strict constructionist perspective, the 1st Amendment is quite clear on its face that the government may not take any action to establish one religion over any other, such as, for example, endorsing the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ as opposed to any other deity.

But really, if the city is going to call it anything, it ought to be a "Solstice Tree," since the decorated evergreen is a pagan religious symbol.

uh oh. it looks like you've been caught stealing bandwidth. imageshack has blocked you from hotlinking.

why not just open a photobucket account of your own. it's free, ya know. then you can link all the images you like without stealing from others.

liberals are more ethical,

You are so wrong. If the hotlinking disabled message from ImageShack popped up it's because so many others are hotlinking MY photos.

I upload ALL photos from my hard drive.

You've wrongly accused me, "ethical liberal."

August26,

Must we get into the Establishment Clause?

A Christmas tree adorning public space isn't establishing a religion. Having a menorah displayed on public space doesn't mean that the government endorses Judaism and is establishing it as a state religion.

Good grief!

Get a grip!

P.S. I like your oxymoron "pagan religious symbol." Cute.

How is "pagan religious symbol" an oxymoron?

Were you not aware that paganism is a belief system? ...a 'religion' as it were?

The idea of using evergreens for Christmas was appropriated from the pagans by christianists. They pretty stole everything about their religion...even the culture-hero, Jesus, is based on the other sun gods, Mithras, Apollo, and Horus. I don't think there's a single original idea the christianist have...I think just about every symbol of their religion is stolen from religions far older....hehehehe

Read up.
