NBC: It's Not Easy Being Green

Hypocrisy, thy name is NBC!

It's
GREEN WEEK at NBC.

NBC Universal's new "Green is Universal" campaign kicks off Nov. 4th with a week of green-themed programming aimed at entertaining, informing and empowering Americans to lead greener lives.

It started last night, when NBC's Football Night in America went dark.

Did you watch that Cowboys - Eagles game? My guess is the audience shrunk faster than an iceberg. The stadium was deserted by the end.

Maybe the crowd wanted to get home and sit in the dark.

NBC has even bathed the "brought to you in living color" peacock logo in green.

Check it out. Isn't it inspiring?

That green peacock makes me want to turn off the TV.

All this green talk, the preaching and pontificating, is a joke.

The Today Show, in its "green" effort to raise awareness and crusade to save the planet, sent Ann Curry to Antarctica, Matt Lauer to Greenland, and Al Roker to the equator in South America. They're broadcasting live from
"the ends of the Earth."

What was the environmental cost of sending their morning stars and crews all over the world to promote energy conservation?

It has to be massive.

Speaking of massive, Al Gore will be making a guest appearance on NBC's 30 Rock, in honor of GREEN WEEK. Do you think Al rode a bike to the studio?

Green messages will be woven throughout NBC's programming this week.

They have to be kidding.

NBC's holier-than-thou preaching belongs on the compost heap.

If NBC wanted to really do a service, the network would shut down for a week. That would save energy. It would show that people need to change their lifestyles and make sacrifices. It would be a sincere and dramatic statement.

Instead, I suspect that gluttonous GREEN WEEK is probably doing more damage to the planet than a typical week at NBC.

(Note: This post is green. Just doing my part to save the planet. That was easy! And it was as effective as NBC's GREEN WEEK. In fact, it's more effective, since I didn't travel to Antarctica to do it.)
