No snow in the past 24 hours -- It's a drought! This calls for a celebration.
It's good to see the sun and no flakes flying, but our war on ice dams goes on.
At this point, I think it's fair to call the war a quagmire.
From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
A deep blanket of dense snow on a bright sunny afternoon. Mild daytime temperatures after a bone-chilling night.
They make for a wonderful winter walk.
And, in many cases, a nightmare for your roof.
That freeze-thaw combination is creating the worst winter in years for ice dams, those often insidious formations that tunnel up and under a home's shingles and send water down interior walls when the dams melt, according to area roofers who have been inundated with calls for service.
...[T]here are a few steps homeowners can take, even now, to minimize the damage.
"You need to get a snow rake and take that first four to six feet of snow off the roof along the gutter edge, so it can't develop," said David Geboy of David's Roofing in Waukesha, who says he's fielded about 300 calls on ice dams in the last eight days.
"When people shovel their driveways, they need to think about shoveling their roofs," he said.
Got leaks?
Relax. It could be worse.
Get a bucket.
Then get a bottle of wine and a glass. Pour, drink, repeat.
