Summerfest Beer Prices

Step aside, mon ami.

Mess with the High life and the High Life will mess with you. $11.50 for a hamburger-- You all must be crazy.

What's this? A Summerfest price increase? On beer?

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Summerfest will tap its customers another 50 cents for 16-ounce draft beers and another $1 for 16-ounce bottles of brew during the 2008 festival.

The price increases endorsed Thursday by the Milwaukee World Festival Inc. finance committee will help the nonprofit corporation cover the cost of filling stages with quality acts and boost its reserve accounts for future renovation of Maier Festival Park, according to President and CEO Don Smiley.

...The first increase in beer prices since 2003, and the first of the Smiley era, will push the price of a Miller product bottle to $6 and a draft beer to $4.50. Leinenkugel's specialty brands and microbrews will cost $5 for a 16-ounce serving.

Beer will cost less at the Big Gig than at other venues and events in the area, including Miller Park and the Bradley Center, according to an analysis shared by Smiley. State Fair prices have been slightly lower, but the 2008 tabs weren't available for comparison.

I don't fault Summerfest for raising the price of beer, but I certainly don't welcome the news.

$6 for a beer makes $11.50 for a hamburger sound like a good deal.
