30,000 Hand Warmers from Mills Fleet Farm

Fans at the NFC championship game at Lambeau Field on Sunday are getting a little help from their friends at Mills Fleet Farm.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

In an act of hand-warming generosity, Mills Fleet Farm will distribute 30,000 mini-heat packs to fans entering Lambeau Field for what is expected to be a frigid NFC championship game on Sunday.

The hand warmers will be available at all four main gates, but the supply is limited. Packer backers are asked to think about their fellow fans and limit their take.

That's nice. And it's a smart public relations move by Mills Fleet Farm, not to mention a way to get lots of free advertising.

It's going to be COLD on Sunday night.

Wisconsinites know how to deal with cold weather.

It's the Giants fans that may have problems. You can spot the out-of-towners. (The women trot around in open-toe, 4-inch heel shoes and no hats. They're usually in tears before the last lines of the National Anthem.)

The media have been doing plenty of stories on dressing properly and the signs of frostbite.

The typical tips:

Wear layers, two pairs of socks, and boots.

Wear mittens, instead of gloves.

WEAR A HAT.

Curtail alcohol consumption.

I haven't come across this tip in any of the "dress properly" segments, but I want to put out a warning.

DO NOT WEAR ANY PIERCINGS.

I've found that earrings act like ice packs in the flesh. I imagine that piercings on other body parts would be a problem as well. You don't want to wear any icy cold metal in/on your skin.

Another tip, especially for women:

A trip to the bathroom will be a long one. Lines will move more slowly because of the time it takes to strip down the layers and get dressed again. Plan accordingly.

Are you lucky enough to be attending the game? Following Minnesota sports teams just keeps getting more depressing every year.

No, I'm not that lucky.

Multiple light layers are better than a couple heavy layers as I have found winter mountaineering. I would worry more about the Charger fans in Foxboro than Giants fans in Green Bay, it at least gets cold in New York. Those San Diego folks wear shorts year round and don't own winter cloths unless they ski. Go Brett and the Pack!

You're right, Goat.

The Giants fans have experience with cold weather. They should be OK, but I don't know if they're prepared for the kind of cold where your eyes feel like they're freezing, literally.

I second your "Go Brett and the Pack!"
