ESPN Protects Dana Jacobson

Dana "F*** Jesus" Jacobson has been suspended by ESPN.

In response to protesters gathered outside of ESPN's Bristol, CT headquarters, Mike Soltys, ESPN Vice President of Communications, said:

Well, what she said was directed towards Notre Dame football. It was wrong. It was inappropriate, but it was directed towards Notre Dame football and it was not directed towards any religious organization.

...We're not providing the transcript of what she said. What's been reported in the blogs has not been precise.

Soltys said that ESPN will not fire Jacobson or release the video, but ESPN probably won't be hosting any more charity roasts in the near future.

ESPN would be better off by releasing the video or a transcript. It would be smarter for the network to just get it out there, deal with it, and move on, rather than dealing with protesters at its gates.

Why not clarify Jacobson's remarks?

Soltys claims that what's been reported on blogs "has not been precise."

OK. Release the video. Get precise.

Soltys should know from President Nixon's experience that withholding tapes doesn't work.
