Three Dead in One Day

UPDATE, January 19, 2008:

Another victim in a string of Thursday shootings in Milwaukee died Friday, authorities said.

The 15-year-old boy was shot about 8 p.m. Thursday in the 5300 block of N. 35th St. He died about 6:20 p.m. Friday at a hospital, according to police, who did not release his name.

The boy's death brought to four the number of people slain in shootings Thursday - after no homicides had been reported the first 16 days of 2008. With the homicides of two infants reported Friday, the year's total rose to six.

CORRECTION, January 18, 2008:

There were not four homicides. Some televised media reports last night were wrong. The fourth victim in the rash of shootings on Thursday is still clinging to life.
MILWAUKEE -- The city of Milwaukee went 16 days without a homicide, and by Thursday evening there were three, police said.

Police said there were four shootings and three homicides in less than 24 hours in Milwaukee.

The latest shooting was that of a 15-year-old boy, police said.

Officers were called to 35th and Custer streets on a report that a someone had been shot in the head.

He is in grave condition and is not expected to survive, police said.

Is anyone really surprised that Milwaukee's streak of 16 days without a homicide came to a screeching halt?

If anything, the surprise was that there were no murders in the city for the first two weeks of the year.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that three people died in shootings and a fourth is struggling to survive.

After Milwaukee went more than two weeks without a homicide to start 2008, three people were killed by gunfire Thursday in the city, and a fourth was gravely wounded, police said.

Two people were found shot to death early Thursday on the south side, in incidents reported just 20 minutes apart. And Thursday night, a man was shot in the abdomen on the north side. He died a short time later.

A 15-year-old boy was in grave condition, police said, after another north side shooting.

The evening homicide was reported about 6:30 in the 3200 block of N. 15th St. Police said shots were heard in the area and the 21-year-old man was found in the road. Police Lt. Thomas Welch said the investigation was continuing. The victim appeared to have lived in the neighborhood, Welch said.

...In the other Thursday night shooting, the 15-year-old was wounded about 8 p.m. in the 5300 block of N. 35th St. The boy, a resident of the neighborhood, was taken to a hospital, police said.

Early Thursday morning, 27-year-old Jimmy Bogust and 17-year-old Damien Camus-Silva were shot to death.

By Thursday at 8:00 PM, 21-year-old Devin Price was shot to death. A 15-year-old boy was also shot and not expected to survive.

What short lives, cut short so senselessly!

How can anyone possibly think that choosing to be a thug is a good thing to do?

It doesn't have much of a future, does it?

Young males are killing each other on Milwaukee's streets and it doesn't seem to really bother people all that much.

That really bothers me.
