Marquette Justice

Way to go Marquette University students and Marquette Public Safety officers!

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

A man police say punched a 48-year-old woman in the head and fled with her purse ran only a block before he was captured by Marquette Public Safety officers after students described the suspect's escape route.

The victim got off of a bus in the 1200 block of W. Wells St. and was walking down the sidewalk about 9:10 p.m. on Sunday when the suspect, 43, attacked her. She fell to the ground and he ran off with her purse, according to Milwaukee police.

Several students showed Marquette Public Safety officers where the suspect ran and officers arrested him. They called Milwaukee police, who took the suspect into custody.

TMJ4 has some other details:

A group of Marquette students helped police catch a purse-snatcher and they did it without even leaving their dorm.

It all happened Sunday night when a woman was attacked in front of a Marquette parking garage near 12th and Wells. Sarah Ochs and Erin O’Brien were in their dorm room nearby. From their fourth floor room inside Marquette’s Abbottsford Hall, they saw the crime in progress and called Marquette Public Safety to report it.

“I just looked out the window and noticed that something wasn't right, and so I could tell they were in a struggle, and I just knew, so I called,” Marquette Freshman Sarah Ochs said.

Their dorm is several hundred feet from Wells Street across an open field. It is a coincidence that the women were looking out their window at the time of the crime. “It was at a time when there was like no cars on the street either, so it was a good thing that we saw it,” Sarah Ochs said.

...According to the Milwaukee Police Department, Marquette Public Safety officers were able to apprehend the robber. Marquette then turned him over to the Milwaukee Police Department.

There's a lesson here.

The reason this purse-snatching thug didn't get away was because students and Marquette Public Safety officers intervened.

The assistance of good citizens helps police get the bad guys off the streets.

People can make their neighborhoods safer, or they can choose to ignore crime and not get involved.
