Another Man Shot by Police

UPDATE: Man shot by police released from hospital
The 21-year-old Milwaukee man shot in the chest by an officer trying to arrest him late Friday on child sex assault charges, was treated and released to police custody, Milwaukee police said today.

...Police said the man was shot after pulling a knife on officers who had come to arrest him at a home in the 3900 block of N. 28th St. He faces multiple charges of sexual assault of two children.
_______________

This has been a violent week in Milwaukee.

In other words, it's business as usual.

A little difference was that two shootings involved police officers.

The first ended in a man's death when police returned fire after he shot at them.

In the second instance, a man survived a gunshot to his chest.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

A man, 21, was shot in the chest by a police officer Friday night -- the second time in a week that Milwaukee police shot a man.

The shooting took place shortly after 9 at a home in the 3900 block of N. 28th St.

At 9:10, officers went to the residence to arrest the man, who was suspected of sexually assaulting two children, ages 6 and 10, according to police spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz. He was on probation for burglary, she said.

A relative had answered the door, Schwartz said, when the man arrived at the residence and pulled a knife. Police repeatedly ordered him to drop it, he refused, and an officer fired one shot at him, striking him in the chest, she said.

He was conscious and breathing when he was taken to a hospital, she said.

...Schwartz said there were five officers on the scene when the shooting occurred, and each was carrying a service weapon.

"These officers showed remarkable restraint," she said.

The 21-year-old man was on probation for burglary and suspected of sexually assaulting a 6- and 10-year-old.

Did he really think that pulling a knife and refusing to cooperate with police would turn out well?

This case became news because of the shooting. Had that not occurred, it probably wouldn't have been mentioned in the press.

It's frightening to think of how much isn't reported.

As bad as Milwaukee seems, it's worse.
