American Sewer Services

I hope the city of Milwaukee has learned to no longer contract with American Sewer Services of Hartford.

From TMJ4:

Neighbors living around 79th and Mount Vernon are bailing out filthy water and mopping up the muck again. They have now spent the better part of three days cleaning up after two separate flooding incidents that they blame on a Hartford contractor.

The latest basement backups, from a sewage line, were discovered Sunday morning. City officials say the sewage line may have been plugged with sediment, washed into the line after Friday's main water break at the same construction site. City officials said contractor American Sewer Services would have been resonsible for flushing out sediment before continuing with work in the area. The Department of Public Works also said that Friday's water main break was made worse by the contractor's slow response time to the scene.

"Two days of working twelve hours, practically," said Leslie Gannon, whose mother owns a four-family home in the affected area. "We were kind of getting on top of things, and then, we're frantically moving everything out again and starting all over."

City Alderman Michael Murphy, of the 10th district, met with neighbors in the affected area. He said he intends to investigate what caused this second invasion of water into people's homes.

...The Department of Public Works says American Sewer Services will be responsible for damages.

American Sewer Services refused to answer reporters' questions.

What a nightmare!

People's homes were flooded twice in three days!

Sunday's mess was from a sewage line.

I hope the DPW sees to it that A.S.S. actually covers all the damages. It's not enough for the DPW to point fingers and say that A.S.S. is responsible. The homeowners shouldn't have to fight American Sewer to pay up. The DPW should make sure that these people are promptly reimbursed for damages.

Ald. Michael Murphy's constituents need him to keep the pressure on so that they receive the compensation they deserve.

So often with flooding, what's lost is irreplaceable. Flooding is difficult to deal with physically and emotionally.

I really feel for the victims here. These poor people have had to clean up the incompetence of American Sewer Services two times already.
