Lena Taylor: Black & Female

In a WisPolitics interview, Lena Taylor talks about her qualifications to be Milwaukee County Executive.

Milwaukee County voters would “get a little bit of Barack and a little bit of Hillary all together” should they vote her in as county executive, state Sen. Lena Taylor jokes in a new WisPolitics interview.

“No one has to decide whether or not they want the woman. No one has to decide whether or not they want the African American,” Taylor said of one of the factors some Dems may have wrestled over during the primary. “They get it kind of all wrapped up in me.”

Taylor noted the high interest in last week's primary and pointed out that Obama won big in the state and in Milwaukee, something that bodes well for her and other African-American candidates like Supreme Court Justice Louis Butler on the April 1 ballot.

Yes, Taylor is a little bit Hillary and a little bit Barack. She offers it all.

Of course, she's just joking around.

However, she's not joking when she says that Obama's win in the Wisconsin primary bodes well for African-American candidates on April 1.

What would Obama's success have to do with Taylor or Butler?

I hope voters are supporting candidates based on their qualifications, experience, and positions, not on their race.

Did Wisconsinites vote for Obama because he's black?

If they did, that's not a very good reason. In fact, it's racist.

In effect, Taylor is saying people didn't vote for Hillary Clinton or John McCain or Mike Huckabee because they're white.
But Taylor said the election went beyond race, noting that Obama carried almost every demographic group.

“I think it's about the fact that people are ready for change,” Taylor said. “They want someone who is going to think out of the box to do things differently, to bring the solutions to the problems.”

I don't think people are ready for change when that change means higher taxes.

It's not raising taxes that requires out of the box thinking. Raising taxes is the easy way out. The simplest solution is to pick the people's pockets.

That's typical big government. That's same old, same old.

Change is not always a good thing.

Scott Walker is the incumbent but he's still the reform candidate.

Taylor is big government business as usual.

Come to think of it, so are Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
