Laura Bush, Jenna Hager, and Jay Leno

First Lady Laura Bush and First Daughter Jenna were guests on the Tonight Show, promoting their new book, Read All About It.

Jenna looks so much like her mother. Their voices and speech patterns are nearly identical.

Jay Leno was a respectful and gracious host.

As teachers, both Mrs. Bush and Jenna talked about how important it is to encourage kids to read.

Nothing controversial there. In fact, nothing political was discussed at all.

After a commercial break, the conversation switched to Jenna's recent wedding.

Leno said he liked that she had it in Crawford instead of at the White House.

He held up People magazine, with a photo of Jenna in her wedding dress on the cover. The picture of Jenna was sans the groom. Leno joked that she married herself. Jenna said she wasn't thrilled about being on the cover of People.

Even the daughter of the President of the United States isn't immune from having a wedding disaster. A storm the night before blew down a tent and got things wet, so there were some last minute challenges.

Mrs. Bush said it would have been easier if the wedding had been at the White House. I can imagine.

Jenna said that they jokingly called the Mother of the Bride "Mommy-zilla."

Jenna asked her mom, "Is that mean?"

Mrs. Bush jokingly replied, "I'm insulted."

Twin sister Barbara was the Maid of Honor. Jenna said she is her best friend. It was very sweet.

Leno asked Mrs. Bush who was more emotional the day of the wedding.

President Bush was more emotional. No suprise there.

They said he was crying as he walked his little girl down the aisle. He couldn't make it through the toast either.

Jenna will be taking her husband's name. She's now Jenna Hager.

It was funny when Leno questioned Jenna about whether she's already being pressured to give her parents a grandchild.

Jenna said she was being pressured to do that before she got married.

Come again?

Leno said to Mrs. Bush, "Well, you're a lot more liberal than I thought. Wow."

Mrs. Bush said, "We were older parents. We don't want to be really old grandparents."

Leno asked if they watched American Idol.

Jenna said she did. She voted for David Cook 40 times. She said that she was excited that he was appearing on the show, too.

Mrs. Bush and Leno briefly talked about Ted Kennedy. Mrs. Bush was classy as always, expressing concern for the Senator and his family.

It won't be much longer that Mrs. Bush will be the nation's First Lady. I think she has been so wonderful in the role, really wonderful.
