From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
Today's classes have been cancelled for all students in the Johnson Creek School District after high school administrators found a threat written on the wall of a bathroom stall Monday afternoon, according to a news release from the Johnson Creek Police Department.
According to the release:
The threat insinuated that someone would be hurt this morning. It is the third such threat written on the bathroom walls in the last four weeks.
Officials from the school district and the police department searched the school Monday afternoon and are continuing their investigation.
It's a dramatic move to cancel classes throughout the district.
This is that good weather, senior prank time of year when threats like this blossom.
If someone really wanted to hurt people and carry out some sort of violence, the way to succeed in that endeavor is not to scrawl threats on bathroom walls.
I doubt the threats are real warnings of planned violence.
What's the district supposed to do in a case like this? Perhaps rather than cancelling classes, parents could have been told of the threats and given the option of keeping their children home today.
However, holding classes would mean that faculty and staff would have to report. If something did happen, God forbid, the district would be sued by employees forced to go to work. That's a given.
It's better to err on the side of caution.
The problem is by cancelling classes the brats win, unless the investigation uncovers the responsible party or parties.
Someone must know who's made the threats. They should do the right thing and assist in the investigation.
An entire school district should not be held hostage by some punk.
