UPDATE: Cashier arrested in shooting of girl

This is really sad.
From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
A teenage girl was shot once in the leg Wednesday night by the owner of a north side grocery store following a confrontation inside the business, said Milwaukee police Lt. Thomas Welch.
The shooting took place about 7:30 p.m. outside Friendly Foods, near N. 22nd and W. Center streets, Welch said.
...The store's owner, a 39-year-old man, was taken into custody after the shooting.
The girl was in good condition at a hospital, Welch said.
Police had yet confirmed her date of birth, but Welch said she was either 13 or 14 years old.
Unless the girl had a gun and was about to shoot the store owner, what possible reason could the store owner have had for shooting the girl?
What kind of confrontation would prompt a 39-year-old man to fire a gun at a 13- or 14-year-old girl?
This is insane.
Does anyone care?
Are we so desensitized to this stuff?

What might be worse, though, is thinking the girl probably had it coming. We hear not only about increased violence in the city, but about crimes being committed by juveniles. On the flip side, there seems to be this reaction by those in the city to pull a gun at every incident to resolve a situation. It will be interesting to see how the story flushes out.
Either way, the city, once again, looks bad.
I agree. Once again, the city looks bad.
More details on the case are available.
Wow. While I'm all for store owners and clerks being able to defend themselves against thugs, this appears to be completely unwarranted. Good thing for the girl she'll be OK. Not so good for the clerk. I hope they charge him good.
I cannot relate to anything about this case in any way. It's insane.
I can't understand the girl's behavior.
I can't begin to comprehend the clerk responding by shooting her. He shouldn't be out on the streets. He's obviously a danger.
