Tourism in the Wisconsin Dells

"Lake Delton likely to be dry rest of year"

Lake Delton and the Wisconsin Dells have been dealt a shocking and devastating blow. That's undeniable.

In spite of the damage and the literal loss of Lake Delton, businesses are pressing ahead.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Businesses that relied on the now-depleted Lake Delton near the Wisconsin Dells hope to reopen before the tourism season gets into full swing.

Wisconsin Dells boat tours are planning to reopen even with the lake at a low level.

The Tommy Bartlett Show plans to reopen with a variety show on the lake shore starting Thursday. But its signature water skiing acts can't return until Lake Delton is refilled, which may not happen this summer.

The Original Wisconsin Ducks amphibious vehicle tours planned to reopen on Tuesday with a new route. They were closed Monday because of high water levels before the lake overflowed.

The Jet Board Adventure Tours and the Lower Dells Boat Tour which operate on the Wisconsin River were closed on Monday but scheduled to reopen on Tuesday.

Wisconsin Dells businesses want you to know that "Wisconsin Dells Area Attractions and Resorts are Open for the Summer!"
Although the waters of Lake Delton have temporarily receded, Wisconsin Dells is still ready for the summer season. We are very grateful that no one was injured. We lost a few homes, but only a very few lakeside businesses have been damaged.

Luckily, the breach of Lake Delton only affected a small stretch of county road and the uninhabited forest area that lay between it and the Wisconsin River.

We’re certainly looking forward to Lake Delton refilling, but the fact remains that with the exception of no water in the lake, the area has not been affected. Most lakeside resorts, condos and cottages offer swimming pools as well as access to many attractions and water activities in Wisconsin Dells.

Visitors may keep their travel plans. For those who have already made arrangements to stay on Lake Delton, please contact your accommodation before leaving.

Life goes on and so does summer in the Dells.

Statement on the Wisconsin Dells Visitor & Convention Bureau website:

Wisconsin Dells Is Open & Accessible

While a number of properties have been affected by rain water levels, Wisconsin Dells remains open and accessible for visitors.

Over 90% of the businesses in the area have not been affected and are open to serve travelers to the community. And all of the access roads in and out of Wisconsin Dells, with the exception of a small stretch on Cty A, remain open for travel.

Visitors may keep their travel plans, and for anyone who has plans to stay on Lake Delton, simply call ahead.
