The Chuck E. Cheese's in the Town of Brookfield is supposed to be "where a kid can be a kid."
Unfortunately, it's been the site of repeated problems. It's been a trouble spot for years, thanks to adults who don't know how to conduct themselves in a public place, around children.
To address the problems, corporate leaders were to meet with Town of Brookfield officials.
That brought a new set of problems.
From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
Chuck E. Cheese corporate leaders traveled to meet with Town of Brookfield officials Tuesday regarding concerns about police calls to the company's Blue Mound Road restaurant, but no gathering occurred because the sides could not agree where to meet.
As a result, Town Administrator Richard Czopp said, town officials will begin the process of revoking the restaurant’s liquor license next week.
The company officials said they wanted to have a casual meeting at a coffee shop, and the town officials said the meeting amounted to town business that should occur at the Town Hall, Czopp said.
A company official confirmed Tuesday that representatives of the Texas-based CEC Entertainment Inc. canceled the meeting over concerns about where it would occur. CEC operates Chuck E. Cheese children’s party restaurants across the country.
Company spokeswoman Brenda Holloway said the company wanted to meet in a public place and a neutral location in which they could sit and have a conversation.
“They chose not to meet us at the coffee shop,” Holloway said.
Police Capt. Tim Imler said he has had at least a dozen phone conversations with company officials in the past few weeks. Town and company officials agree that raucous parents, possibly under the influence of alcohol served at the restaurant, are often the cause of the problems.
Imler said the conversations covered a list of solutions that were going to be presented at the meeting, including the company’s plan to hire a new security firm and install security cameras and erect better signage listing rules of behavior.
The Police Department is frustrated with the calls to Chuck E. Cheese, including a recent report of crack cocaine and syringes used to inject heroin that were found in the restrooms, Imler said.
“They had promised to show us a list of solutions that have worked at other locations,” Imler said. “They said we would be excited about their ideas, and instead when they got here they wanted to sit down and have a tea party instead of addressing the serious issues at their facility.”
A representative from the company told Imler on the phone Tuesday that they came to town on a “fact-finding mission,” which Imler said is contradictory to any other conversation he had with the company. Imler said the company representative blamed him for the negative publicity surrounding the issue and declared that a meeting would not occur.
At the end of the phone conversation, the company representative told Imler that if he wanted to resolve the issues, the CEC officials would remain at Caribou Coffee for 30 minutes, Imler said.
Imler and other town officials did not go to the coffee shop.
Good grief!
This is like the weird stuff with the Paris Peace Talks on Vietnam and the negotiating over the shape of the table for the negotiations.
Chuck E. Cheese representatives demanding that the meeting be held in a public, "neutral location" is odd. It reminds me of a scene from The Godfather.
The Town Hall isn't a threatening place; and cancelling the meeting has only created more negative publicity for Chuck E. Cheese.
I think the "fact-finding mission" was a waste of time. No solutions were presented to Town of Brookfield officials.
So, Chuck E. Cheese's liquor license is likely to be taken away.
Oh, well.
All's well that ends well.
