Favre Fatigue

I'm so sick of the wrangling by Brett Favre and the Packers.

On Tuesday, Favre made his latest move, seeking reinstatement.

GREEN BAY, Wisc. -- NFL spokesman Randall Liu confirmed that Favre sent his reinstatement paperwork to the NFL offices Tuesday. He now is awaiting approval from commissioner Roger Goodell, a step that is considered a formality, but wouldn’t be forthcoming until Wednesday at the earliest.

Once Favre is reinstated, the Packers will have 24 hours to decide what to do with him.

“That’s obviously the first step in Brett coming back, so we’ll deal with that when he is reinstated and we’ll definitely have a plan in order,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said after practice Tuesday afternoon.

...Throughout Favre’s latest round of flip-flopping on his football future, Packers officials have said that Favre had the option of rejoining the team — but Aaron Rodgers would be the starter.

“Brett Favre is still a very good football player,” McCarthy said Tuesday. “He is an asset to our football team. Once again, I’m going to answer this question for the last time. The plan for Brett Favre will be discussed with Brett Favre first, and then we’ll make it aware to the public.”

McCarthy also said Rodgers will start all of the preseason games and probably get more playing time than Favre used to in the preseason.

“He’ll be starting all of the games as the starter,” McCarthy said of Rodgers. “We’ve talked about possibly playing our first group maybe a little longer, and those are things that we’ll discuss. The health of your football team obviously factors into that, so that is our plan going into the preseason with Aaron.”

On Tuesday night, Packers president Mark Murphy was on his way to talk with Favre in Mississippi.

Green Bay -- The Green Bay Packers are attempting to bridge the divide between themselves and estranged quarterback Brett Favre.

Literally.

Team president Mark Murphy boarded a private jet bound for Hattiesburg, Miss. on Tuesday night.

"Hey, wonder what I'm going to do there?" Murphy said with nervous laughter when approached by the Journal Sentinel.

Murphy would not say why he was headed to the area near Favre's home, where he has been readying for his comeback to the National Football League. Favre's agent, Bus Cook, is also based in Hattiesburg.

"I can't talk here," Murphy said.

Murphy will attempt to broker some sort of peace agreement between the quarterback and the franchise as the situation between them threatens to erupt.

Private jet. That is so not green. But I digress.

And the nightmare continues...

I'm so tired of this.

It's a battle of egos, personal and ugly and just plain stupid.

It's time for compromise.

Let Favre compete to be the starter. Why not?

If he can perform, let him play.

At his retirement press conference, he said how difficult it was to prepare for the games. He said the pressure got to him. He couldn't take it anymore.

What's changed? Does Favre really think that this season will be easier, in Green Bay or anywhere else?

All of this mess has put more pressure than ever on him. Coming out of the retirement that never officially was, he has to be great, not just good.

It's unacceptable for the Packers to just release Favre. And when it comes to trading him, it's a buyer's market.

I think it makes sense for the Packers to keep Favre.

I don't think it will take long for Favre to realize that his return was a mistake and he should have retired gracefully.

Whatever happens, soon the situation will be resolved and our long Packer nightmare will be over.

Favre said at his retirement press conference, "As they say, all good things must come to an end."

Weeks ago, I said that it's true that all good things must come to an end. It's also true that good things don't necessarily end well.

No matter what, this good thing, the Favre era, will not end well. It's too late for that.

Favre blew it. The Packers blew it.

All that has happened can't be undone.

So STFU about it already. Put your money and your mouth in sink dimwits.

You don't understand.

That's odd because from your comment it seems like you're a very compassionate person.
