John Wiley Price and Cake Racism

This is beyond ridiculous.

This isn't a case of political correctness. It's political insanity.

From FOX News:

What do "black hole," "angel food cake," and "devil's food cake" have in common?

They're all racist terms, says a Dallas County, Texas, official.

A county commissioners' meeting this week over traffic tickets turned into a tense discussion over race when one commissioner said the county's collections office was like a certain astronomical phenomenon.

"It sounds like Central Collections has become a black hole," Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said during the Monday meeting.

One black official demanded an apology, and Commissioner John Wiley Price, who also is black, said that type of language is unacceptable.

At the meeting, Mayfield said he intended his comments to be taken in the context of the scientific meaning, and became upset that he was being misunderstood.

...Later, Price told MyFOXdfw.com that he believed it and other terms were racist.

"So if it's 'angel food cake,' it's white. If it's 'devil's food cake,' it's black. If you're the 'black sheep of the family,' then you gotta be bad, you know. 'White sheep,' you're okay. You know?" Price said.

With all due respect, Price is nuts.

Devil's food cake isn't black. It's chocolate and delicious. It has nothing to do with race, absolutely nothing. Devil's food cake doesn't have a negative connotation. How could it? It's so good!

And angel food cake IS white. It's made with egg whites. Angel food cake is not Caucasian.

Price's claim that the name for devil's food cake and blackness are related doesn't make any sense. What about deviled eggs? They're usually white and yellow. I've never seen, nor would I eat, a black deviled egg.

The whole thing is idiotic.

Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield had every right to be upset when the other commissioners demanded that he apologize for being racially offensive when he said "black hole."

It's completely unfair for him to be charged with saying something insensitive when there wasn't anything at all wrong with what he said.

Price and anyone insisting on an apology from Mayfield for saying a racist term revealed themselves to be ignorant.

Price owes Mayfield an apology.
